The alchemy could be the result of Teknall's logical approach to teaching mortals (maybe through Gerrik's eventual replacement?) the secrets of the Occult. Of course, the voodoo-alchemy would come into being because they'd of course mess up the formulas and experiment on their own and make all sorts of crazy potions. It'd be great.
