Operation 8. This unit was put together to be able to handle high risk operations in situations and areas where the atmosphere is extremely volatile or sensitive. This can be removal of assets from foreign governments, defending assets from hostile forces, gathering of information, espionage, or even assassinations. Operation 8 deploys knowing that most of its missions involve them being a deniable asset, which means their identities are masked and no one will ever know or talk about where they died, what they were doing, and the government will not acknowledge anything to do with what is going on. Additionally, Operation 8 will act in an open capacity. Sometimes they will act as security or advisors, sometimes they will help escort sensitive items on convoys or be used to with traditional military in securing targets. At this level, they are officially attached to the appropriate unit and not operating DIRECTLY or PUBLICLY under the unit of Operation 8.
A few things: 1. This RP is set in the mid 90s. The reason and importance is that military technology and capabilities were fairly modern, but not all-intrusive. We had satellites, but more limited than today, comms were slightly less dependable, and the most important thing is that technology hadn’t yet crept into our lives so that pretty much everything is watched almost instantly. This is a two way street in that it makes it easier to “get away” with things, or keep them out of the eyes of the public, but it also makes communicating with people less dependable and more limited. 2. I am not one for historical accuracy or factual consistency. While the world is there, it’s ok for example, to say there was a war in South America, or Europe that didn’t happen in real life, that your character was a part of. I may say there was a hostage situation by some group that never existed in some city that never existed in some country that DOES exist. 3. I recommend multiple characters and entertaining the option of having a few die. 4. NPCs are going to be created and eventually, I’ll be making short bios for them, just to retain facts and stuff of that nature. 5. This group should be somewhat diverse ethnically. It’s easier to operate as an arms dealer in Asia or Africa if you have someone who looks the part. 6. For post quality, I don’t care. I assume you can RP at an “advanced” pace, but the reality of it is that the more action, dialogue, and character interaction that is going on, generally the SHORTER your posts will be as you wait on others to react and/or reply. Don’t feel pressured to make every post into a chapter. Just have the scene progress.
