Elliott too was talking to Light when she was taken and now I'm figuring that out mainly because I think that if she Retogrades the event she can see what happened without the effect of illusionary obfuscation. I base this thought on the fact that as she looks at the past she's unaffected by other powers because she's not actually there. If the illusion does affect her then that throws a new light on future power development because it would mean in some way she is journeying back into the past.
