Being one of the victims of a death blow, she has enough reason to shy away and be wary of them. However, her current position in the Citadel almost always put her in constant contact with them. Spells:Enhanced Healing: She is capable of healing complex wounds in the expense of her own life energy. She functions as the healer in all of the missions she is sent to and is often weak hence the need for a bodyguard. Abilities:Memory Manipulation: an ability she was forced by the Empire to learn. By order of the Empire, she uses this ability against the rebels. She either wipes off their memories to incapacitate them or completely brainwashing them into serving the Empire. This is the same ability the Empire used on her to alter her own memories. Artifacts:Spell Negation and Power Translocation Ring: Grants her the ability to negate spells casted in her general vicinity and transforms them into regenerating power for herself and others. The ring was given to her with the sole purpose of tracking mages who were able to escape the Citadel, making her best suited to enter areas armed with debilitating spells. History:Elise was born to the Firebrooks, a prominent family in the Citadel. Her mother, knowing from birth that she was a mage, immediately gave her up to the Empire. The Empire, seeing as how they can train a child to be loyal to them took her in and educated her. To avoid giving her undue attachments to her original family, she was given the surname Shadewater. She was given a more comfortable 'lodging' as compared to the other mages locked up in their prisons in the form of a rickety bed and a bit more rations of food, but she was still a prisoner through and through, going only where and doing only what the Empire allows her to. During the time she was allowed to study in the library, she met a young soldier, named James Blackwell. He treated her differently from the people in the Empire. To him, she felt normal and wanted. And so, eventually she found herself in love with him. However, on her 19th year, an increase in her powers manifested itself. A young boy that was studying in the library with her had been severely wounded by one of the soldiers. In an attempt to save him, she had thrown herself in the way of the blow that would have ended his life. The sword had cleaved through her shoulder but she had reached out and grabbed hold of the soldier’s ankle, immediately draining him of energy and automatically healing herself. The other soldiers who had witnessed the manifestation of her powers immediately struck her down. As she fell, the last thing she saw was James. He watched her die. He didn’t make a move to help. And at that moment, she felt betrayed. But the energy remaining in her body did not let her succumb to death. As soon as she was brought to the Citadel for burning, she had woken up. And because of it, she was brought to the Empire’s leaders and was promptly deposited in the hands of the Citadel’s scientists and innovators, where she was subjected to all kinds of torture and experimentation. This was the memory she was given. Her real life story, however, lies in the mind of only one man: James Blackwell. “Her name was Athelia Westward. I hadn’t been a Holy Paladin for long at the time, and I was deployed to a village suspected to be harbouring a mage. The intel was…off. Turns out, it was a trap. One thing lead to the next and before I knew it, I was disarmed and at the mercy of a very irate mage. I thought I was dead, until that mage’s daughter convinced him to spare my life…that I could change. I guess it worked. We got closer, and I tried to keep it a secret for as long as I could. But life wouldn't have it. A year later, she and her family were exposed by Empire spies. By the time I got back to her village, everyone was dead and I had to bury everything I had come to love.” – as recounted by James Blackwell. Several years later, she stands as one of a member of the Empire's special army, built to do as commanded. As the Empire's forerunner, subduing mages and rebels were as easy as taking a leisurely walk in a flower field. She had been sent to several missions, all ending in resounding successes. What made her turn against her own kind remains unknown.
