Ser Theowald is a man pious training and discipline, left with a body that consist of hardened muscle and very little fat. In short, the man is massive in every sense of the word. His hand have been described as frying pans. His hair has a a light brown, almost blonde color and his brown eyes are sharp and alive. His skin is fairly tan, betraying his southern roots and he has his mothers bushy eyebrows. He sports a well kept beard and an easy, almost permanent smirk on his lips. A single scar runs across his left cheek, down to his jaw. He is often if not always seen wearing the black, heavy gambeson that is so often attributed to his order. He carries himself with posture and confidence, but no golden or silver jewelry adorn him despite being originally of noble birth. Instead, he wears a simple pendant made out iron. It depicts a shield. He does not drink, and his affairs have been brief, mutual and never with a lady of leisure. He is allowed to take a wife if he so chose it but see no need. He does no judge others over their actions however, so long as they are not strictly illegal or ethically unsound. He is no stranger to sacrifice, and his Pledge demands he act as a shield for those of weak heart or body against those of wicked nature. He is also seemingly incapable of dishonesty. This gives them a focus and a presence in battle that helps them keep calm even in the face of overwhelming numbers. However, he is sworn to never lose his head to alcohol as a result. The Bigger they are…: A tall, large man, he has been noted to be difficult to knock off his feet. However, when he falls, he falls hard. Paladins Code: Theowald wishes to serve his god and order. This means being the shield for others. This also means putting his foot down in situation where subterfuge and silver tongues are needed. Also he do not lie. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx B A C K S T O R Y xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Born the bastard of Nobility within the complex world of Operath inner politics Theowald was destined to be a complicated child. Son to Ser Olof Von Leinbicker, a human lord who ruled a small fief right at the border of Operath and Warring lands. Their neighbour was the Kingdom of Marful. A peaceful little country that enjoyed trade with Ser Olof. Theowald was the product of the his father's affair with a famed courtesan on the other side of that border. As a result, he was born out of wedlock and in a high class brothel, However, Ser Olof did now wish his flesh and blood, bartard or not, to live a life of sin. So he offered his lover and her son to live within his borders, on his land. What was more amazing however, was the total acceptance of his wife, Lady Margalotte von Leinbicker. It turned out that she had known all along and never held her husband in contempt. Instead, she had conversed with the Courtesan who’s name was Meilana and found her charming and clever. Margalotte was dying in a rare respiratory disease that no healer seemed to be able to cure: Redrot. That and the fact that Meilana knew girls who had dirt on other nobles helped her accept Meilana.. Meilana would eventually be made a small noble so that Ser Otto could take her for a second wife, a year after Margalottes death and her son would be recognized as legitimate heir to the throne should his other half brothers perish. Luckily for him, they did not nor did he face pressure to prepare for such a claim. Instead, he knew he was born out of wedlock, and that he was viewed with suspicion by those not part of his own circle of friends. His choice was to seek out the Shield of Belia to dedicate himself to a life without sin. Belias Shield is a order that have chapels both in Operath and Melfic and that despite being small, is renowned for their activity as de facto law keeper around rural areas and for being downright militant when it comes to dealing with eventual problems that arise. It was a conclave of Shield Knights that once put down a large noble dispute that threatened to devolve into a civil war back in Melfics infancy. However, due to its small size, they are not as influential as they could or should be. With the Undying Wars, their numbers have dwindled further. Several of their monasteries have been raised by the dark hordes and many disciples and paladins fell in the War of Ruin. Their main temple lay almost on the Aith Anur border. The stories of a hundred Paladins holding out for days in a sea of the Undying is being told to this day. They trained and fed and outfitted a very pious and disciplined Theowald who wanted only to do his duty. He was especially apt with the massive swords called Shield Cleaver by the locals. It was essentially a flamberge, complete with the massive handle and larger blade. Being a man of rather large and tall proportions, he could wield with relative skill and precision. When the war came, he was serving the rural communities outside of Melans Tear. Thus, he was able to escape to within the walls for safety when the hordes came. He and several of his brethren contemplated trying to hold the local monastery but stories of their main chapels valiant but fruitless last stand steered them towards throwing in with Melans Tear. Their order was one of many on top of the wall those terrifying last years of the war. And a young Theowald manages to go from Initiate to Paladin during that time. During the War of Persevarance, he took a bad tumble from his horse mid battle and was only saved by his peers. He spent the last two years outside the fighting, regaining the use of his left leg trough healers and rehabilitation. Despite being made by some extremely talented, dwarven smiths by a light and sturdy steel, it is still a heavy thing. He us very apt at using, relying on reach and power. Its a two hander only in name, it has handle capable of two and half, and a extra hand right above the guard, in case he use it as a spear. Arming Sword and Shield: Carried on the back is the classical Heater Shield of his order. The Shield read "My shield is my will and my will is of iron" which is the Pledge of Iron you undertake as a Shield of Belia. Emblazoned on the otherwise dull grey shield is the contours of a mountain in green copper. Coupled with the shield is a rather normal run of the mill arming sword. The only difference is the small green tassel on the edge of the hilt. Armor: His armor is noticable lacking compared to many noble knighs. He does not wear plate on his his chest, opting instead for the chainmail and the Gambeson. This is becouse his massive sword allready provides enough of a burden.
