Luigi Lama
Feyhollow Town Lui was lost. It was dark, he was hungry, and he had no idea where he was. Lui was miserable. The trouble had started that afternoon. It was his first day in Feyhollow, and it'd started out well enough; he'd bought lunch at a cafe (the most delectable pancakes he'd ever had, soft and light with a sweet almond sauce and butter – technically breakfast food, but it'd sounded so mouthwatering Lui hadn't been able to resist) and headed out to explore the sights and play music on a corner for tips. He was kneeling down, putting his violin away and organizing his money in his wallet when he felt a shadow fall over him. Lui paused and glanced up to see a grinning man standing over him. Startled, Lui jumped and let out a small yelp. The man didn't react, just kept smiling. They were still for a long, uncomfortable moment, Lui and the smiling man. He felt heat rising to his cheeks. "Um..." "Well, that was some fine music there, son!" the man cut him off. Lui jumped again, still on the ground next to his violin case. "Y- um... yes. Thank you?" He was an older man, wiry hair already stark white. He was wearing a suit that was two sizes too big for him though it seemed expensive. Lui's eyes widened as he realized he recognized this man – he'd been on the corner opposite himself, shouting at onlookers and handing out pamphlets and little boxes, taking advantage of the crowd Lui's playing had drawn. "C-can I–" "Well, a fine young man like yourself, I bet you get to travel with that there violin plenty!" Lui gave a tiny nod, wanting desperately to break eye contact with the man but frozen in his intense stare. "You ever consider pokemon?" Lui's eyebrows scrunched together. Consider like… having them? Thinking about them abstractly? The man didn't give him time to answer, though. "Well we at Poke Corp feel a responsibility to encourage people from all walks of life to enhance their lives with pokemon – you know all sorts of benefits come with coexistence with them. Extended life span, higher quality of life and happiness, more self confidence. A young man like you has lots to gain, don't you think?" "Uh –" "Well, to encourage people to get out and go train and use our pokemon related merchandise, we're handing out a free pokedex and your first pokeball! Quite a prize, don't you think? You might've seen me handing them out to people as you played your lovely music, and wouldn't it be a shame if I took advantage of your crowd without making sure you got something in return?" Lui blinked up at the man for a solid ten seconds before he realized the man was waiting for a response. "Yes?" "I wholeheartedly agree!" And that had been that. After the exhausting conversation (monologue?) finished, Lui found himself one pokedex and pokeball richer. He'd always had a passing interest in pokemon, but he'd never had opportunity to have one. His mother felt it'd be a waste of time that could be better spent practicing violin or doing homework. But now... well, maybe it was time for that interest to be indulged. And so Lui had bought some snacks in case he got hungry and ventured out of town into the surrounding forest. There really was something wonderfully mystical about this place – how the dappled light misted through the trees, the way the leaves above seemed to sing with otherworldly voices. He'd been compelled to stop no less than four times to play his violin, accompanying the music of the forest. And while wild pokemon often made him nervous, Lui surprised himself by enjoying his time with them. He liked to point his pokedex at them and listen to the mechanical voice tell him their names and bits of trivia. But as the shadows grew longer Lui decided that it was finally time to head back into town. Except he didn't know how. He was well and truly lost.
