Marigold is the daughter of a respectable family and she grew up learning how to act graceful and feminine. She was tutored to be knowledgeable in not only magic and manners, but the fine arts. She excelled in music and Marigold adored singing. She dreamed of singing for the theater while she was growing up, but at the time was incredibly shy, so she only sang when she thought nobody was listening. 

One night while she was at a party being hosted in the castle, she got bored of dancing and decided to take a stroll in the gardens. While observing the roses, Marigold began to sing quietly to herself out of habit. To her surprise, after she finished with her song, she heard a single applause behind her. She turned around and saw Prince Bellerophon smiling at her and, before she could say anything, the prince started complimenting her song nonstop. Marigold found herself too flustered to speak properly to the young prince, especially when he started his obvious flirting.They soon parted ways after a pleasant conversation, but not before Bellerophon grabbed a nearby rose and cast a spell to turn it into gold and gave the flower to her as a gift.

She received an invitation from Bellerophon a few days later asking if she wanted to accompany him to an event. It was after that date that the two of them started keeping in regular contact with each other. They developed a friendship and she felt lucky just to even know the prince on a first name basis, so the day when Bellerophon gave her the most beautiful golden jewelry she had ever seen Marigold felt shocked that he initiated a courtship. She nervously accepted the jewelry but she was still happy because as far as she knew, the prince has casually dated in the past but he had never taken those relationships seriously. Bellerophon spoiled her with all kind of material objects she had only ever dreamed of owning and by taking her on romantic dates. Bellerophon proposed to her after a year of dating and she happily accepted the prince's proposal but they never got the chance become married. A few months before their planned wedding, Marigold fell into a mysterious coma and nobody has any idea what exactly happened. She had been alone in her room the night she was attacked but the mess in her room indicated that there was struggle. It was concluded that she was attacked by an intruder and placed under a powerful spell. The intruder was eventually caught but confessed to not understanding why she was in a coma and that the spell had been designed to kill instantly but it backfired, so even the attacker did not know a remedy.

She never woke up and to this day, 8 years later, stays asleep in a bed at her parent's house being tended to by a healer that Bellerophon hired for her. Most of the time her body is still like a corpse and the only movement that is recorded is when she seems to be suffering from nightmares that cause her to cry out in pain. Marigold and her parents are also guarded by a Protector who Bellerophon also hired for them after he ordered her previous one to be executed for failure. While the prince only finds time to visit her occasionally and hardly ever mentions her to anybody anymore, he always carries around the golden flower he gave her almost a decade ago.
