Kaite kinda had that choice with the whole:
"Held in an 'evidence' prison to rot as a living clock for 'statutes of limitation', or be sold as an asset to The Monroe to exercise his use while its still there."
(Since the training and housing wasn't cheap, the choice wasn't left to him)
((And there are very good reasons why his bought service was so cheap))

EDIT: It occurs to me that most me my edit was lost.
- Kaite has an affinity for tending to moving parts of a mechanism. Power supplies and the running of currents, electronics and coding are far beyond him but;
	= Is it supposed to move?
		-- Yes, and he can likely keep it going in line with normalcy. (Even to the extent of welding damaged bits back together (But you should probably see a mechanic about long-term repairs))
		-- No, and he can [i]probably[/i] keep it from moving long enough to have someone more qualified take a look at it.

	= If all else fails, is there an 'off' switch or the ability to turn 'it' off?
