Uuuuh, I have no issues with you joining but you'll probably be 100% lost if you don't know at least a BIT of the lore. I'd recommend you take a look at this page: [url]http://valkyria.wikia.com/wiki/Valkyria_Chronicles[/url]

And maybe watch a playthrough on youtube up till the end of chapter 4, just to get an idea of what's been going on in the world. That's about where we are in the 'official timeline', though keep in mind we are mostly doing our own thing. You'll definitely want to at least see the intro cutscene, just to have an idea about the background of the setting.

If you're still interested after reading through some of that, let me know. We'll figure out a place to drop your character in. After what happened with skeptic a while ago, I think I'll just end up having your character be an unannounced member of one of the fireteams. That way you dont have to wait a month until we manage to write our way back to base.
