[@Lexicon]Humble beginnings my friend, as time progresses our little band of warriors will become feared and equipped to deal with the worst that the Dark souls world can throw at us. 
So yeah, in time everyone will begin to acquire access to better equipment and spells - everyone will also get skill points handed out at certain intervals to level up; speaking from the games perspective.
