If, as it has been, burning at the hands of "monsters" and tragedy for so long, then deeper hatreds I would find to run truer. There exists few greater comparisons than our own world after all. I cannot begin to imagine how spiteful and long living grudges are, especially when it comes to matters of prior histories and worse yet... rumors.

I personally am quite partial to the notions of this setting being dark and rooted in fear and hatred. Just the underlying tone strikes me that way - even how the Vigilants are portrayed. 

Certainly no "good guys" abounding.
