It's a shame but stuff happens.  RP, as fun as it is, is optional.  A lot of other things in life aren't.  When push comes to shove and you [i]have [/i]to drop something it's better to drop the optional stuff than risk something important (not that friends and fun aren't important but not to the extent of losing focus on other things like say food or school or a job or bills).

God knows I should be able to understand this.
