He's setting up these special Russian rocks, right? These rocks act as a jungle-gym for tiny magical pixies. What you can do is shoot pixies through a tube onto these special rocks such that the pattern they make when they splatter at the other side of the rock paints a pretty picture of what the jungle-gym looks like reeeealy up close. This is likely to help with more magical pixie-taming techniques, because these are very special Russian rocks. That's how I've interpreted it, though I am sure there are one or two technicalities.
