I would like to mention just in case it wasn't clear before, but Fran had thrown her axe at Juno, meaning that Fran intentionally put herself out of Melee range. Unless Juno could have made Miyu bigger or bothered to chase Fran down, she'd be out of swing range from Miyu's mech. Fran saw Juno's black hole and wisely decided for a range attack instead of a melee one, since for Fran they're both just as effective then the other in terms of damage done.
