This is who I am!”
Basic Information

Gender: Male Ability: Sap Sipper Moveset: Worry Seed / Retaliate / Wild Charge / Rock Side. Unique Possessions: A little bell attached to a ribbon with sentimental value. The bell itself is very quaint. It only measures a couple inches in width and is hardly noticeable from long distances. It has lost a fair amount of its sound in its weathered and vaguely deformed state. The paint itself, however, does not appear to be chipped or harmed in any way. The ribbon is made out of a charleston green nylon. Under that nylon is a strand of jute holding the bell in place on the ribbon.

Personality

Whatley’s intrinsic beliefs about the universe lead him to be predominantly benevolent towards others. These beliefs typically stem from a high sense of inquisitiveness that he’s had to possess from a very young age. Since he was left to figure out most things by himself, he’s kept his mind open and welcoming of every ideal that passes him by. The only constant belief he’s ever retained was one he personally conceived when he first began his journey away from home. Fundamentally this belief states that every pokémon is placed in their circumstances intentionally. Whatley believes that nature, society, and all things are as they are because the universe has so dictated them to be for an unforeseeable purpose. This has made Whatley markedly more modest than his peers. He believes that everyone in the world has their own purpose dictated by the cosmos themselves. Their ideas, at any given point, doubly so. Ignoring others and discarding their words would seem to Whatley like objecting to the “divine” will of the cosmos. This has naturally made him something of a pushover. As one would expect from someone who follows others as if they were prophets of the speaking stars. Despite this, Whatley is still very feckless. He generally doesn’t take stands against injustice. Nor does he try to improve his own circumstances. Such, he believes, is the will of the universe. Personally, Whatley is very naive. His lack of introspection has lead him to believe everything others tell him that he is. He’s never really sought for his own identity because he sees it presented to him through others. Because of this a dichotomy is set between Whatley’s personality in a group as compared to Whatley’s personality when he’s left to his own devices. In a group, Whatley is very open-minded and affectionate. Since he finds a certain sense of worth when with others he will more often than not be rather submissive to their wills. These collectives empower him even when he personally is not prominently involved in them. On the other hand, Whatley acts very different when he’s alone. He finds himself not looking introspectively for answers but to the intentions of the universe itself. He attempts to figure out why the past has left him and what the universe wants him to do. In doing this he finds himself very distant from those around him. In distancing himself from others this previous sense of self-worth is derived from him. This, more often than not, results in a lasting feeling of dejection and melancholy.

Backstory

The first figure Whatley could accurately remember was his caretaker. A conceited and narcissistic Torterra who had previously decided to take up an apprentice for his trade. This would have been ideal for the young Whatley if this Torterra’s trade had been more honorable. However, this was not the case. Allen, as he was called, was a scoundrel and a mean fellow who capitalized on the recent dungeon pokémon strife by claiming attacked villages for himself and fortifying them with his gang of lower-level pokémon. Any civilized pokémon left in those villages had a choice to make. Either be eternally indebted to him in exchange for letting them live in his village or to leave the village with no possibility of ever returning. In one village in specific, Whatley met a Whimsicott villager named Whitney who wished to convince him to leave his caretaker and join her dream journey. This “dream journey” of hers was to travel the world, hitchhiking on team after team to live like them before travelling further and further away from home where she would find happiness and meaning within herself. This concept excited Whatley and the two of them made plans to start their journey under Allen’s nose. Soon after Whatley and Whitney had left the village, Allen heard word of Whatley departing from the village’s borders. Allen was furious that his protégé had left him so readily. He launched an initiative to find the Skidoo almost immediately. Not far after the search for Whatley had begun. Meanwhile, Whatley and Whitney had fled into a nearby forested area. It was exhilarating for the two of them to explore. They didn’t intend on leaving the forest until they had seen everything it had to offer. Unfortunately, whilst on their adventure, they were found by two of Allen’s men. One of which, a Shiftry named Abel, had recognized Whitney from the village. Abel had his own personal grudge with Whitney and was hideously ecstatic to find that he had the means to do something about his grievances. It wasn’t much of a battle before Abel had found himself standing above a collapsed and helpless Whimsicott. With a single razor leaf, Whitney’s life had seemingly ended. Whatley was a scared child, paralyzed by fear. It only took a fierce glance from Abel to kick Whatley’s survival instincts into gear. Whatley ran away and has been running ever since. Whatley is still a young Skidoo, so this traumatic incident was eventually blocked out of his memory. But the wishes of his late Whimsicott companion still live alive and well within Whatley. It can even be assumed that his life’s philosophy is simply a rationalization to continue following the wishes of Whitney even after her death.

Misc.
