[@silver fox] You can totally start anywhere you'd like. Any of the locations created are viable starting spots. Also, there's actually no starter! Your character starts off with a Pokeball, so he or she sinply goes and catches their first Pokemon (which has to live in one of the created locations). 

That make sense at all haha

//edit trainers at beginner rank can catch the basic form of any pokemon that evolved; they just can't evolve pokemon yet.
