~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Maddox Teldryn ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
As Maddox carefully trudged around the perimeter of the opponent’s reach, the Knight steadied his resolve. Taking note of the verbal component to the spell Abel had begun to cast, the Crimson Knight’s tactics would not change. There was little he could do against magic. Maddox had experience working with offensive magic, which was to say he was able enough to dodge effectively and recover from various arcane attacks. His training had also provided him with the ability to resist a number of mental attacks that result from arcane attacks. But little capability did Maddox have to deal with defensive spells. What seemed to be a carefully thought out and well-placed shield attack had been renegotiated as faux pas in combat. Maddox was ready, Perhaps it had been a subtle shift in the opponent’s chest to reposition his shield. Or maybe it was the shuffle in his feet that allowed for the knight to pick up on the incoming attack. Maddox was ready. Abel’s shield bash came forward. Readily apparent that it was not as powerful as the previous attempt nor would it back as much of a wallop; however, it was just enough to allow Maddox to gain the upper hand. Abel was left handed - holding his shield in right. Maddox was right handed - holding his shield in his left. This put their shields on the same side. As Abel rushed in with his shield bash, Maddox feinted to his right, side-stepping and withdrawing from the brunt of the shield attack but still allowing the clamor of the shields to erupt in connection. As Abel’s shield pressed against his own it provided the momentum for the Maddox truly needed to pull off this attack. Abel’s body would push through Maddox’s defenses. However, it would not knock Maddox down or turn his defenses on end, but spin him out of the way allowing Abel to fall through beyond the Knight’s body. This would provide Maddox with an opening as Abel’s attempted sword attack would no longer have a target to attack. From behind, Maddox swung his sword fiercely. It came mostly horizontally, with a slight upward angle even with young tax-evaders lower back. But Maddox would allow for little time to pass in between his initial attack and the follow up knowing that if he did not act swiftly, the opponent would regain the upperhand. Withdrawing his sword the Knight thrust his sword forward towards the opponent. He managed to maintain weight on his rear leg, to ensure he remained on the defensive. Aimed towards the same location that he had just slashed at, the Knight was looking towards victory.
