A narrow pathway is shoveled from the door of the old Victorian Era house to the front gates. A few lights have turned on on the upper floors of the building, indicating that a few early risers have awoken already. The Birchmont Home is a private orphanage in northern Minnesota, United States of America. It houses children from birth to age 18, all of them from different backgrounds. Since there are a lot of children in a relatively small space, they share rooms of six kids each. The bedrooms are shared between boys and girls, but the bathrooms are separate. The place is a bit low on funds and not very well equipped for emergencies. The building is over a century old, and falling apart in places. A lot of the staff members haven't had proper training and some of them even mistreat the kids. Clearly this place breaks a lot of state rules and regulations, but the authorities haven't closed it down yet. And besides, for about 200 kids, it's their only home.
