Magic-based works unless some significant element of the game's lore goes against the idea.

I'm imagining something like that, yeah -- basically, whenever you're in 'EX Mode' you become a sort of pseudo-demonic entity. He wouldn't be as powerful as The Emperor is, and this would pretty much be exclusively in his 'EX Mode', but it would make him significantly more powerful than he would be normally.
