Imagine a world like our own, yet a bit...different. While federal law and the government is still a thing, Maniacles Corporation, which deals with weapons, research, and mercenaries, is now known worldwide and has a greater influence on society with each passing day. This corporation is credited for dealing with the Pests Crisis just over a decade ago. Pests are disgusting little abominations, which vary in appearance from big ass tarantulas with many eyes all over, to squid like creatures with many mouths. At one point these things swarmed the earth, until everyone had to own and open carry a gun (which was legalized...at least in the US). Six years ago, Maniacles found a huge one on an island somewhere in the Pacific. It was a broodmother, birthing many of these things by minute. After this monster's destruction, everyone; mercenaries, law enforcement, armed civilians, stepped up their extermination efforts, until a Pest became an uncommon sighting. Today, some have even managed to domesticate them, and own them as pets. Mages Little do most people know, Maniacles achieved this victory over the pests via what they call the Maleficus Project. Even fewer know what this was. Maniacles found, and made peaceful contact, with a secret society of those who practiced magic. This was done through a process in which a person was connected to the energies of the universe, and learned to control them. Anyone could become a "mage" as they were called, but many were slowly driven insane. While the broodmother was destroyed, the situation ended in tragedy, in which only a small handful of students made it off the island alive. Vampires For as long as men had been around, there have been vampires, who have always been misunderstood as monsters with a ravenous appetite for human blood. It is true that they will live for thousands of years, are weakened by the sun, and need blood to survive, but most other things are exaggerations or misunderstandings. Any animal blood is as good as a human's, and their weakness to silver or the sun will halt their regeneration and weaken them, but they won't burn up. Mages and vampires have been at odds for as long as either have existed, but have been forced to work together before. You...you have failed... After the situation involving the Maleficus Project and the broodmother, many cults have risen, worshiping various different strange entities, depicted as massive, horrible monsters. In most cases, these cults were easily put down by Maniacles Mercs. After taking out a cult worshiping a creature on the moon, which turned out to be another broodmother, it was revealed it was only one sect of a larger global cult, preparing for the return of a set of deities they called "The Dead Gods." Many attempts to put this cult down have failed. You are a survivor of one of these attempts, invited by Joseph "Mikkish" Callahan to his colonial home and put a stop to this cult once and for all. App Presents The League of Incredibly Horrible People Rules 1. No God Modding 2. Follow the lore 3. No time skips without my permission 4. No altering the lore or making backstories with my NPCs without my permission 5. Anti-hero characters only please. I might allow one idealistic hero just to have him/her be ignored/made fun of/taught another hard lesson. 6. Feel free to ask if you have any questions 7. I might add to this, but for now lets get on with this Lore Clarifications * Vampires, in addition to immortality, have enhanced strength, speed, senses, and a regeneration. Some vampires can read and manipulate thoughts. * Vampire weaknesses include silver, the sun, and aglophoetis. They cannot heal wound with silver weapons as easily, needing special care. While out in the sun, their regeneration doesn't work, and their abilities are slightly weakened. Aglophoetis is a rare red herb, which negatively affects mages and vampires both. * Maniacles is as common as Coke products. Maniacles merchandise and merc bases are a common sight. * Mages don't need wands or staves to perform magic. * The average person doesn't know about magic or mages or vampires. Mages and vampires tend to try and blend as normal humans. * Mage blood is poisonous to most vampires. In the rare event a vampire is not killed by doing this, he/she becomes an Elder Vampire, who are able to mimik magic to a limited level.
