Magic has returned and is slowly finding it's way into everyday life. Schools are starting to teach practical magic spells and scientists and engineers are making amazing advances blending magic with current technology. The only catch is no one knows why or how magic returned to the world. In the face of the resurgence of magic and thus races of other dimensions returning, religions believing in a higher power has all but collapse. When angels and demons returned, expectant believers confronted them and the demons and angels all but laughed in their faces. Well, demons really did and angels tried to let them down a tad easier. Although belief in an after life still exists, it reshaped all regard of religion. The political climate of this dimension became even more tumultuous with the reappearance of other races. World leaders still struggle to acclimate to these races and although most areas of the Earth are either apathetic or welcoming, some are down right vicious and discriminate with extreme prejudice. Violence is common in those parts. It is important to note that the magic on this dimension seems to be an intermingling of energy from every dimension. Dimensional scholars are unsure as to why.
The Feywilds:
The Feywilds exists along the edge of the Prime Dimension. Weak spots in the dimensional border happen frequently now and one could take a single breath and suddenly be in the other. Elves and humans are currently working to stabilize these weak spots so individuals aren't unknowingly transported. As its name, almost all of the Feywilds is a massive forest containing rivers, lakes, and mountains. On the southern border of the forest, the Silver Sea laps quietly at the beaches. Magic is wild and rampant here, doing whatever it pleases. Stones can suddenly rise into the air, vines whip around sporatically, and mountains spew fire that suddenly turns to water. The magic is almost sentient and can quickly kill those it doesn't like. The Elvish capital of Na'lasha rises from the south edge of the wilds and is run by a circle of druids that ward against the wild magic. Elvish travelers know at least basic wardings and always bring offerings when moving between settlements. High above the feywilds, the Faery city of Murias floats unattached to the dimension. The enchantments keeping the city of silver afloat are powered by the twin moons that dominate the sky, even while the sun is up. The city is in a constant state of peace and happiness. Rarely do the Faeries interact with the other races of the feywilds, preferring to talk to the flying creatures of the wilds. They have a strained relationships with the Elves, seeing them as invaders of their homeland. Nymphs are wanders of the feywilds. The wild magic of the dimension almost always views them favorably and assists in their travels. Nymphs were formed directly of this magic, an expression of the beauty of the feywilds. Neither Faeries nor Elves ignore their wishes for fear of irritating the abundant magic although Nymphs prefer not to interfere with their affairs. On this plane, environmental magics that directly interfere with the changes created by the dimension itself always fail and frequently turn on its user. Magics that damage the wilds can be used though the welders must be careful otherwise the dimension might turn on them.
The Dark Dimension:
This realm is a shadow of the Prime Dimension. This dimension exists slightly below the Prime one and can be used to cover great distances quickly as space works differently in this dimension. Parts of this dimension flows into others so can be used as a bridge between dimensions. Since space is continously changing in this dimension, using it to move across the Prime Dimension is quicker but not always accurate. Everything in this dimensiom is black and white, color having been bleached out. Goblins, vampires, and imps call this dimension home, not really gathering in any particular fashion. Vampires infest the shadow version of Prime Dimension cities and drag victims back across the border. Goblin tend to stay beneath the surface and dislike visitors. Imps are michevious tricksters, slipping across dimensions to steal and trick. Magic that conjurers light and fire fails on this dimension as it sucks the magic out of the spell. Creatures of fire or light suffer greatly here. Using these spells repeatedly could kill the user.
The Etherial Dimension:
This dimension permeates every other dimension. The as one shifts into it, the world becomes fuzzy and clouded as if looking through an unfocused microscope. Etherial beings are invisable, intangibile, and unable to interact with any other dimension. Almost no matter exists on this dimension but what does can be altered magically with little effort. This dimension offers two very real dangers. Intelligent creatures that die violently, with attachments, or for any reason refuse to move on can manifest as ghosts, echos of emotion and intent. These can possess unwary victims on the Etherial dimension and slowly wear away at their psyche, eventually replacing the original person's memories with their own. They effectively take over their host and their life. The other is only known as Those, creatures of such unknowable terror that all who encounter them descend into madness. They wander the dimension, ignoring the rest of the worlds. They seem content to hide in the depths of this dimension. It is said however that making a pact with these creatures grants power unimaginable.
Inner Dimensions:
Known as the Elemental Dimensions, these dimensions contain the primal forces of nature. None of these dimensions have civilizations but other creatures exist along the borders of the Prime Dimension and their respective elemet. elemental energies do coalesce into intelligent creatures known as Sprites. These creatures hold the primal energy of their planes and can shapeshift into creatures they are familiar with, general those that exist in their own dimension. A sprite's size is determine by the amount of elemental energy they possess. A sprite cannot cross into another elemental dimension but can be called to the others. When traveling to any of these dimensions, travelers often need heavy wardings amd short visits. Fire: Mostly consisting of plates of compressed fire, the air is constantly burning and what passes as water is actually lava. Earth: This dimension is solid rock, although the hardness and quality of soil and minerals vary. Unless an individual can phase through rock, any traveler caught here immediately turns to dust. Air: This dimension is the most hospitable to travelers. Gravity is merely a frame of mind and unless someone actively chooses their 'down', nothing will move. The whole plane is an endless silver sky with periodic clouds. Water: The second most habitable dimension as long as one can breath water. A giant ocean with no end any dirextion, gravity is also a state of mind here. Life: This dimension is blinding white. Visitors immediately heal all wounds but being exposed to long causes one to immolate from the inside. Death: This dimension is pitch black. This dimension opens every wound ever recieved then drains the life from travelers.
Celestia:
One of the two dimensions of Angels. Celestia is a world of soft golden light, crystal blue waters, mountains, and beautiful valleys. The sun here is soft and relaxing, never burning and blinding like the Earth's. The sun never truely sets merely dips close ro the horizon before climbing again. There always seems to be a gentle breeze. Angels here are soft spoken but firm. They are dedicated to a hierarchical order based on age. Deviation from the structure and laws of their society results in strict and often painful punishment. These Angels prefer to debate rather than fight though they are no strangers to weapons. Eons ago, the demons and angels of this dimension fought for millenia, egged on for unknown reasons. The Angels believed the Demons were expanding into other dimensions and causing chaos. They believed the demons sought to control everything. Celestia is a dimension of order and refuses to changed. Even magic struggles to fight against the natural order. Angels here developed magic that instead enhanced themselves rather than altered the world around them. Conjuring golden wings, developing strong seals to ward off the Dimension's influence, and healing magics that could even push them beyond normal limits, the angels of Celestia created Avalon, a city of shining marble and gold that houses more knowledge than every insitution in the Prime Dimension put together. Creatures of soft silvers, golds, and ivory, Celestia Angels (Celesti) are long and elegent with sharp features. More often than not, these creatures float around Avalon and other out laying settlements, expirmenting with magic. They tend to look down on Ysgardians, Angels of the Dimension Ysgard, as lesser beings, lacking grace, sophistixation, and discipline.
Ysgard:
Ysgard is a world of endless summer. Golden and green rolling plains, a verdant forest, and deep blue rivers and lakes cover the landscape. Death impossible on in this dimesnsion. The Life Dimension overlaps enough to provide eternal life to all its inhabitants. As such, individuals born here are always born with a slight connection to the dimension of life and have regenerative properities. Those who leave the dimension however can be killed through any mortal means. Visitors to the dimension also recieve the benefits of the healing properties of this dimension. However their bodies become dependant on the magic after a short time and they suffer from withdraws once they leave. The longer they stayed, the worse the condition. Those that stay for a century at least turn to dust immediately. The Ysgardians are loud, boisterous, and reckless. Revelers at heart, they embody fun and joy. Since no living creature requires food or sleep in this dimension, the Ysgardians indulge in every imaginable activity to the fullest including competiton. If there is one thing this race loves, it's fighting. With no capacity to die, Ysgardians don't understand the meaning behind caution. During the wars between angels and demons, the Ysgardians earned a fierce and vicious reputation. On the battlefield, their prowess with weapons and innate magics dominated. And although most Ysgardians develop innate magics, those that employed environmental magics were just as reckless. Calling lightning from the skys, triggering explosions from the ground, and immolation are common spells in a Ysgardian's repitoire. It was this race that developed the forbidden arts of blood magic. The teriffying magic allows it's user to ignore thehysical boudries and draw magic directly out of an individual's blood stream, with or without their consent, and enhance their own magics. It's important to note that Ysgardians fought on both sides of the war. They never truely understood why it happened, they just knew fighting was involved. And where there is a fight, at least one Ysgardian can be found. Ysgardians lack the structured settlements the Celesti have. Since they don't require sleep or food, they generally just wander from group to group fighting and partying. The clothes are simple and bright and natural eye and hair colors range from red to yellow to green.
The Abyss:
This dimension starts gloomy and rapidly darkens as you discend. No creatures are known to live here except the odd exiles. There are rumors that the City of Brass, the largest black market across the dimensions, resides somewhere in the Abyss.
Pandemonium:
Demons originate from this dimension of chaos. Rivers of scalding fire collide with glaciers before spinning into a thousand butterflies than turn to tone and vanish. The earth reaches out with at fleshy hand that melts into steam. The randomness of Pandemonium nearly wiped out the demons as they first settled the dimension but they found the mineral known as obsidian in the Prime Dimension. This stone warded off the chaotic effects of the dimension and demon promptly build their largest city, Hades, out of it. The city is the largest across the dimensions, consisting of 700,000 individuals. Smaller cities also made of obsidian spot the insane landscape though travel between them is dangerous. Reality on this dimension is always influx. Gravity shifts randomly, it it even exists at all, solids turn to liquids without warnong, and food and water spins out of thin air. Those with enough focus can literally create anything in Pandemonium but the chances of it staying stable is slim to none. In this effect, demonic magic developed in order to counteract these oddities. Invisability, matter manipulation, phase shifting, and teleportation became hallmarks of demonic abilities in order to avoid dangers that spawned from nothing. Demons actually developed time magic in the same way. They realized Pandemonium only alter the laws of space and not time. They used this branch of magic to gaze into the future for upcoming danger or rewound time to avoid them. After a few centuries, they realized that using this magic so much caused several new time streams within Pandemonium itself and violent activities increased as the time lines warped around each other. Demons fell into the cracks between time and vanished forever. When normally a single volcano would erupt, three could instead and destroy entire cities. The ancients outlawed time magic after merging all the time streams back together. In the wars between angels and demons, they employed that magic again. This time they used it to scatter the angels across time and laughed. It took years but the angels finally found their way around the constant time loops and pursued demons into Pandemonium. The absolute chaos almost cost the, the war. Demons are similar to Ysgardians in that they have a loose social structre. Some laws exist but it's mostly a demon eat demon world out there. Generally humanoid, the sport prehensile tails, horns/scales, and red to black skin.
