The ship had left the starbase three days ago and proceeded at warp 6.5 to the Qo’tal system after having met with the Klingon embassy and received  the information on the whereabouts of a lost Oberth Class Vessel the NCC-1866 Beagle lost in 2267. The system was close to the Klingon border and unsettled even though one of the 7 planets in the system was a Class-O Pelagic world (87% Water  with a Nitrogen/Oxygen Atmosphere) in an optimal orbit around a Class-A Light Blue Supergiant star.


On entering the system Captain Ferguson ordered the sensors to do a detailed a scan of the entire system though focusing on the O-class planet which in the Klingon charts was named simply Qo’tal-4. And quickly discovered debris that matched materials found in Oberth class vessels built in the 2250s. And a short time later scans made a startling discovery when they found an operating fusion plant on one of the islands of Qo’tal. The Captain ordered the ship into Orbit around the planet and scans of the island where they found three [url=http://www.startrek.com/uploads/assets/articles/c920dc3971ff4acf2072b66a4ccd6c15ed01bd4e.jpg] Type-1 Shuttles[/url] lying just outside of a small village whose structures were made of rock and the local vegetation.


This information made its way around the Asterias like wildfire; they had found people, survivors or at least the evidence of survivors. The crew then began to speculate on who would be chosen for the away team many wishing there was some way that they could inject themselves into the rescue.


Lt. Commander Sayer the XO called on four crew members whom she’d chosen if not for scientific specialty then for some trait she thought might prove useful on the mission. Then she made her way to the main transporter where Chief Petty Officer Lovegood stood waiting at his console ready to beam them down.


She had to admit to a bit of nervousness and the presence of the old Chief a man she’d served with a few years ago as an Ensign; he was her suggestion to Bull for ship’s Senior Chief Petty Officer a man with more years in uniform than anyone on board. He was a tall man (6’3”) who had the physical build of a man 30 years his junior and a rakish handlebar mustache some said allowed him to sense the frequencies of energy of the transporter pads and correct settings with a higher degree of accuracy than the most power computers.
