Despite her dark choice of a career path, she has a heaven-sent green thumb, making her floral decorating and cultivating rather charming. She knows how to play the piano and spends her free time painting with watercolor. Faults At first glance, many people would think that Artemis to be a "happy-go-lucky" art student or a floral designer, but instead she chose such a "grim" career. She suffers from manic depression--leading to many months of her young life being spent in a mental institution after several suicide attempts. The career choice was to force herself to see death for what it really was... and to be okay with that. She also suffers from insomnia, which means that sleep is a no-go, which causes her to fall back into her depressive state. Power: Shadow Manipulation - Artemis is able to become one with any shadows nearby or "in contact" any part of her body. She can also make shadows "physical" and bend to her will. Personality: Artemis is a very kind and sweet girl that would want nothing but the best even for her worst enemy. She believes that life is too short to be fueled by hatred and sorrow; yet she fights her own mental battles on the daily. She would give anyone the shirt off of her own back in a blizzard with no second thought. This young woman shows her passion for everything on the daily, mainly to keep herself holding onto the edge of what would have been her will to live. She does not leave anything unfinished from day to day, as she likes to keep everything in perfect order and appear to be high-functioning in front of all her friends and family. History: Artemis grew up in an average household with her single mother and two older brothers. Her father had passed away during her mother's pregnancy with her and had never bothered to remarry. They made it day by day, life was nothing out of the ordinary. Her mother was like a ray of sunshine in her children's world; she was so strong and would work day-in and day-out, many times only sleeping for an hour or two before going back to work, in hopes of giving her children the best chance they could have in a low-income household. Being the youngest, Artemis was oftentimes babysat by her eldest brother, Sebastian, and they would spend many evenings preparing supper for their mother whenever she returned home. Her other brother, Daniel, was always studying and reading, so he would rarely spend any time with his siblings, but they truly didn't mind. She and Sebastian often pretend that they owned a floral shop by making paper flowers, because they had no space in their apartment complex to grow any flowers. They vowed that they would one day own a floral shop and make their mother proud, while Daniel would be in charge of all the finances, because he was the smartest of the three. Years past and time continued on as it would for anyone else. Both of her brothers had moved out, though Daniel was the only one that had managed to go to college (he'd gotten high enough grades that he managed to get an almost free-ride to a college a few hours away) and Sebastian lived in his own apartment across town with his fiancee. Daniel never returned for breaks or bothered to call, but Sebastian would send whatever money he could when he could spare. Artemis wanted to make her dreams come true of owning a floral shop, so she pushed herself to the limits in all of her classes and even took up piano from Sebastian's fiancee. She had life by the horns, but it all went down the drain when her mother did not return back to the apartment as she had every night ever since Artemis could remember. That's when Artemis got the call... her mother had jumped off of a bridge to her death. Due to her mother's absence, she had not realized just how depressed her mother had been. According to the will, she had been fighting the urge to kill herself for years in order to end the agony of living without her husband. Her mother's funeral was the first that she had ever attended. Artemis barely finished high school--there were many days where she was sent to the councilor to discuss why "cutting is a bad way to express your grief" and how there would sunshine in her life once more. That's when the pill-popping began. After she had graduated and moved in with Sebastian, she attempted to kill herself multiple times over. Her manic depression, which had been slowly growing since her brothers had moved out, began to control her every waking moment. There were nights where she would stay awake and plot a hundred different ways that she could die. The night and darkness became her worst fear and her comfort zone. It became a place where she could truly be herself free of judgement or worry. After her third time in the institution, Artemis took up an internship in mortuary science in hopes that she could make the mourning process easier on other people than it had been on her.
