	The blood is crusted on. The axe isn't normally cleaned, as it's not actually his, just what he picked up from the last people he killed. He tends to, for the most part, rip people apart with his bare hands, or crush them with them. Ape lords are extremely dangerous in melee, at least in dnd, where I pulled the idea from. They're like a troll in melee, tear you apart.

	Also, you say a campaign is brewing? For what system?
