When a Fire gem from the southern border and a Water gem from the farthest north fell in love, no one had any idea what the child was going to be, but they certainly didn’t expect someone with Liana’s coloring. From the moment she was born she seemed to be a patchwork of tiny whorls and specks of alabaster and golden flecks, her hair streaks of dark copper mixed with lines of platinum blonde, one eye deep golden and the other icy blue. She was certainly odd-looking, but beautiful, in her alien way.

As she grew up, there were other oddities about her, most notably in her command of elements. While most gemminites had some level of proficiency, if not mastery, of one kind of elemental magic, Liana struggled with even the most basic of magics—for a while it was believed that she was one of the rare cases that didn’t have any noteable magic. They couldn’t even try classify her element until she was fourteen.

That day, in fury at the torment of the other children, something in her snapped, and she cast a shower of sparks at them, while a sheet of water splashed down on their heads. In fear the children ran away- they’d never seen a gemminite who had two elements. They thought, at first, that she was a drakken, and made a great show of checking her to see if her horns had sprouted yet. 

Fiercely determined, Liana did not let their taunts get to her, for now she knew that she wasn’t as useless as she thought- if anything, she was even more unique. She spent countless hours trying to hone her magic and now has some control, at least, over both elements, though she is still much, much weaker with her magic than nearly all gemminites would be.
