As long as combat systems are totally subjective its impossible to objectively call yourself a fighting game expert because you are good at street fighter or Soul Calibur because the 'expertise' needed for those games is based on the opinion of those who choose to play it. Someone could be an 'expert' at rockem sockem robots if they subjectively found the combat more deep.
They're totally subjective in the sense of whether or not they're enjoyable. Whether or not there's an objective attitude towards how 'competitive' they are is an entirely unrelated matter to whether or not they're fun, since not everyone equates competitive with entertaining. Plenty of people consider Tekken competitive, but I think it's one-dimensional and boring, and while UMvsC3 is highly popular I think it's a beginner's game that's all flash and no substance, so there is a subjective quality even to that. I can call myself a fighting game expert because I'm able to understand and play any fighting game at a high level pretty much upon picking it up, including those I see as weak games -- I said I had no respect for Tekken, not that I can't play it. I'm also an expert because I tutor people who could win tournaments, even though I myself have no interest in the hype of tournament play. [@CrazyShadowy] If I took that sort of break from the site, I honestly don't think anyone here would see me again. There's enough people here who annoy me that I just wouldn't come back if I immersed myself that heavily in my project. I'm also in a couple of role-plays now, so I need to keep track of those. At the very least though, this place needs to get less of my focus from now on.
