Brandt Age: 35 Supernatural Race: Half human, half were-tiger Ethnicity/Race: German
Height: 190cm Weight: 89kg Eyes: Dark emerald and heavy-lidded, giving him a rather intense stare especially when he makes an effort to intimidate Hair: Black, thick and spiky, his hair reaches just past the nape of his neck and his right eye is usually concealed behind a thick clump of fringe. Body Modifications: No piercings, but has the number thirteen in Roman Numerals (XIII) tattooed in black ink on the right side of his neck with the bottom at his collarbone and the top of the tattoo halfway up his neck. Distinguishing Marks: N/A (just the tattoo, the top can be seen even if he wears a fully-buttoned collared shirt Clothing: He likes to wear a two piece suit in hues of dark blue and black, including the tie. His shoulder holster lies beneath his suit jacket. On colder days/nights, he wears a dark trench coat over his suit.
Personality: Amon is mild-mannered and a hard person to offend, waving off insults and jokes in an equally offhanded manner, as long as it is directed at him only, of course. Quick to banter with people he has been acquainted with before or anyone he is comfortable around, he is the sort of man that is easy to befriend, work alongside and open up to as long as he is not being his typical lazy self, which usually rubs some people the wrong way. He works best when sufficiently motivated and/or under pressure. If not, he is pretty lax and uninitiative until a superior gives him a command. However, he is serious when he has an objective to work towards and will do whatever it takes to complete it. Amon believes that the law is right, and rules are placed there for a reason. He hates it when people try to find a way around it, twisting it so they will come off as innocent when they are clearly not. As someone working for a law enforcement organisation dedicated to protecting peace, he will not hesitate to use his authority to do what he thinks is right, may the culprit be human or supernatural. This attitude has made him an enemy in the eyes of some extremists supernatural beings who dislike him for not following his supernatural blood and fighting against humans, making him rather paranoid at times. Of course, his paranoia is justified in that he has to be very careful what he says and reveals in case he is ousted as a Supernatural and making him a target for Hunters like some of his unfortunate colleagues. Of course, he has been lucky so far, but luck eventually runs out, no matter who you are... Because of his position and experience in Law Enfocement, he has grown to be rather perceptive and inquisitive. While this trait has gotten him into quite a few tight spots and trouble, it has proven to be invaluable when trying to avoid detection and suspicions. History: When the first of his supernatural friends - a Dreamwalker by the name of Cilicia - was killed by an unknown murderer, Amon was nineteen, a recent graduate of high school and starting his first year in the Police Academy. He is the only child in the family, born to an ordinary police officer who now works as a mall's security guard and a chauffeur mother. For the first eighteen years of his life, his family was as normal as they could be. They were mostly absent from home, coming back in the evenings to either a cooked or bought dinner and catching up with each other during that short period before Amon would excuse himself, finish whatever work he had to do and head to bed. Life was repetitive, bland and mundane as can be, occasionally broken by rare days off or overseas holidays. Amon grew up listening to the stories his father used to tell about his days in the law enforcement, the gory and simply inhumane things some people were capable of. From a young age, he dreamt to be like his father, working in the police force, keeping innocents safe and doing the righteous thing. Putting criminals behind bars and ensuring nothing befell the city he loves. When he was seven, he discovered his unique 'abilities' when a friend pulled a prank on him and trapped him in a school's storeroom. Despite the utter darkness, he could see as though it was merely evening. He went to school, read books and from listening to conversations all around, he knew it wasn't normal to be able to see in the dark. But that was not what scared him. Claws, sharp, shiny, long and protruding from beneath his fingernails made him scream in utter terror. The hollers drew his teacher, who took one look at his unnatural hands and merely sighed, shifting into a large wolf for a second before shifting back. Amon calmed down and as his shock receded, the claws retracting a second later. That became the little secret between Amon and his teacher, who disappeared a year later and her body found abandoned along the highway. He kept quiet about this, living as though he was a normal human student. That was, until a month after his nineteenth birthday, the death of a friend of his, and coming back home for the summer holiday to his parents fighting. His father was yelling at his mother, getting more and more agitated by the second before fury made him lash out at his mother. It turned out his mother was a were-tigress, making him a half-were. His unnatural abilities started to make sense. This revelation did not sit well with his father, who proceeded to ignore his mother's existence and even began throwing judgemental looks and snide remarks at Amon. For half a year he ignored the sudden change in their household, attempting to mend the rift between his parents and himself. However, every attempt was shot down rather spectacularly by either of them. He gave up, losing himself in the Police Academy instead. The previously warm house became cold, and Amon began to see the world in a new light. He could see the light distinctions between humans and supernatural beings, personally bore witness to the aftermaths of several violent and bloody skirmishes between the Supernaturals and Hunters more than once. Little by little, as he worked his way up the chain, he began to classify people into four groups: the Hunters - ones who knew about Supernaturals and aimed to kill them. Two: the humans - oblivious individuals sometimes caught in the crossfire. Three: the Supernaturals - non-humans or humans with supernatural blood running through their veins who actively fought against the Hunters. Four: the Uncaring: those like him, whether humans or Supernaturals who are well-aware of the clashing factions but wants no part to do with it. Of course, there might be people who fell into none of these categories, but as far as he was concerned, these were the four main ones. It was these conflicts that prompted him to enlist into the Crime Division for Mysterious Cases of the police force. To his utmost surprise, there were quite a few 'Uncarings' amongst them. In this Division, he was able to slowly come to terms with being neutral despite his mixed blood. He was twenty-four when he made his first arrest, a Hunter that was caught killing a presumed Supernatural. Since his victim did not change from human form in death, he was convicted of murder. That was also the year he moved away from home to Gravette and got a tattoo of the Division number (XIII) on his neck. Now at the age of thirty-five, he remains single, more scarred, paranoid and cynical than he was before, although he never lost his lax nature. An Inspector in the Division, he heads a relatively small team of twenty officers, and often work together with the friends he made over the decade as a peacekeeper. As more cases of unnatural death in Gravette turned up, he and his team are on call more than ever before. Strengths: 1) Enhanced speed, smell, agility, regeneration and stealthiness due to feline heritage (although healing is only half that of pureblood weres) 2) Ability to see in the dark unlike the humans he works with 3) Since he is half-human, he wouldn't go crazy over catnip, shiny objects, bright lights, etc 4) Since he is only half-were, he doesn't have a 'separate' animal identity that many pureblood weres like his mother seem to have Weaknesses: 1) Easily startled by sudden loud noises (although he has learned to curb showing his surprise through facial expression, the jump of his heart or minute jerk of his muscles gives him away) 2) He has an irrational fear of large bodies of water (again, most likely due to his feline genes) 3) He has no magical abilities nor magical defences against it Stance: Inactive/Uncaring Special Power/Skill: The only thing that sets him apart from normal humans is his retractable claws, sharper teeth and ability to see very well in the dark. And of course, the strengths mentioned above. Other: Since he is an Inspector, he carries a .44 magnum tucked in a belt holster at his waist that is constantly on his person, as well as a trench knife tucked in the left sheath of his holster and his badge tucked in his suit's inner pocket. Body Modifications: Standard ear piercings only, her ordinary looking earrings are actually crafted from the bones of her first kill. Distinguishing Marks: Across her abdomen, she had puckered scars of four diagonal slashes. Clothing: She likes to wear simple cotton tank tops and slacks in order to keep maximum maneuverability and range of movements. More often than not, she wears a midnight blue long coat over her outfit.
Personality: Kei is ruthless, pitiless and unmerciful towards those who oppose her, namely, the Supernaturals. She views them as abnormalities in the fragility that makes up the human race, and thus deserves to be killed lest they overtake the world and quite possibly wipe humans from existence should they wish it. If Hunters didn’t take matters into their own hands, who would? This feeling was born of a deep-seated hatred for the killer of her adoptive parents, as well as a quest for revenge long since fulfilled but still unsatisfied. Now, she hunts Supernaturals in a bloodthirsty spree. While Kei is considerably more lenient towards her allies like the other independent Hunters and expresses human emotions around oblivious humans, she absolutely abhors traitors and persistent repetition of the same mistakes, whether it applies to herself or others. She will offer her medical expertise and first aid skills to anyone in need as long as they are not Supernaturals. When she was still an oblivious human, she felt deep and true emotions like everyone else and can, therefore act human when she is in her identity as Dr. Akagane and not Hunter Akagane. Her human mask is friendly and polite, her smiles welcoming, emphasizing the youthfulness of her face and making her seem rather harmless. Needless to say, that was far from the truth. However, this façade is thin and fragile. The moment she senses a threat, the mask falls away faster than you can bring. She reverts back to the sneering, cruel Hunter with so much blood on her hands and red in her ledger. Her ambition to crush Supernaturals and have humans live no more in fear of becoming extinct comes first even with the amount of care she shows towards her fellow Hunters. She is crass and blunt with her words, not caring who it may offend as she doesn't believe in sugarcoating reality when there are so many other things in the wide world that can and will kill you in a second. History: Kei's story did not start out a tragedy despite the fact that she was orphaned at the age of four. It was a freak accident involving an exhausted train operator, a joint track, and two colliding trains. Fuyuki and Osamu Akagane died in the early morning of March 12 on their way to work, leaving their young daughter behind in the world. Kei's aunt, Yura, was listed as her godmother, but Yura had her own family to take care of. With two children and a baby, she couldn't afford to support Kei too. Not on her meager income. Hence, Kei was sent to an orphanage. Despite her withdrawn attitude due to grief, her stay at the orphanage was not as intolerable as she had thought. Sure, there was always the odd child who tormented everyone, but the other kids were pretty friendly and understanding. After all, they were all there for the same reason. Here in the orphanage, she liked to spend time with the resident nurse, a sweet old lady who took care of the children’s various ails and illnesses. As a young child, she admired the lady and her ability to help people at their worst, no matter how small her aid was. On her sixth summer, a young couple - Jinta and Aiko - adopted Kei due to their inability to create children. Out of all the available orphans, Kei's appearance was rather similar to the man's, prompting them to choose her, for her looks was close enough they could pretend she really was theirs. So once again, Kei's childhood life returned to normal, even if she left her hometown of Nagaoka to live in the bigger city of Kyoto with her adoptive parents. Brilliant at science, Kei’s childhood fascination with doctors and nurses quickly influenced her ambitions for the future, causing her to undertake the subject of human anatomy in her sophomore year of high school. And so from there, she undertook microbiology and immunology, graduating from high school with marks high enough to enter Touho University. There, she studied surgery and medical science, completing her honours at the age of twenty-one. During the following holidays, she worked part time in the hospital where she did her Honours in, paving her way to be an orthopaedic surgeon, seeing as quite a lot of patients came in with fractures, broken bones and such like. While gang fights, random violence and mysterious deaths were not unusual, her life was not directly plagued by sorrow, at least not for another year. Then one day, her adoptive father went out for his bi-weekly bar night and failed to return home in the morning. Worried, her adoptive mother called his friends, as well as the bartender for the night before to question them. None of them seemed to remember Jinta making an appearance. Another day went by without news and Aiko called the police, who spent a fortnight scouring the areas Jinta frequented, the houses of any suspects they listed before finding his mauled body buried in the nearby park. The teeth marks left on his bones were apparently that of a large, wild animal, one that the authorities were absolutely sure was not local to this part of Japan, much less the local area. With no more evidence to identify the killer with, the case was closed, leaving Kei and Aiko to bury him and mourn. Two months after burying Jinta, a stranger clad in dark leather knocked on their door, asking after the mysterious death of her adoptive father. It wasn't unusual for people around these parts to know about the case, with such a close-knit district and gossipy old ladies. Deciding that it wasn't as though this man could harm Jinta anymore than the killer had, Kei opted to tell him everything. In response, the man handed her a silver-coloured cylinder and told her to be on the lookout, as "it already has your scent, but is scouting you out for the best time to strike". Before she could ask what that cryptic word meant, the stranger left. She didn't need to wonder long about the statement and the even more mysterious stranger because the next night, a giant crash and suddenly, a large, brown creature was across the room, forepaws extended. It said right over the dining table and landed heavily on Aiko, knocking her out of the chair and slamming into the opposite wall. Her sharp shriek was abruptly severed at the sickening crack of bones snapping. One look at Aiko's limp form and Kei knew in the back of her mind that she had just lost her second set of parents. Screaming in a mixture of rage, fear and denial, she picked up her chair and threw it at the beast. The hardwood merely bounced off its flank and succeeded in drawing its attention to her. Lips pulled over menacing looking fangs, it snarled, prowling over as though wanting to take the time to savour her horror. Not wanting to take her eyes off the creature, she groped for the silver cylinder even if she didn't know what it could do in a situation like this, but she fully intended to at least throw it at the beast's head, hard. Her shaking fingers closed around the smooth hilt, squeezing tightly and unknowingly pressing an activation button. It unfolded into a silver baton, solid and heavy in her hands. In desperation, she swung out, managing to deliver a wallop to the animal's head. It hissed, retreating slightly as a red welt formed where the silver struck. Seeing an opportunity, she lashed out over and over again, not even hearing the whirl of sirens over the hisses of the creature until it vanished. When the police busted the door down, they were treated to the sight of a trembling Kei sitting on her haunches in the middle of the living room, staring at nothing as she clutched the baton to her chest. When she was finally discharged from hospital, the stranger returned, intending on claiming back his baton. Kei refused to give it back to him unless he told her what the hell was going on. Following the man to his house - "temporary residence" as he put it - Kei learned everything he was willing to share about the Supernatural, and those who hunt them. Recalling how fast and strong the beast was, Kei couldn’t even begin to imagine the damage a handful of them could wreck on the human race. It was then her belief that Supernaturals needed to be dealt with arose. With the desire for revenge burning within her, she pestered the Hunter into taking her on, and followed him around for two years. In these two years, he taught her how to fight with a staff when it became clear she wasn't going to survive going hand-to-hand with a Supernatural, as well as firing a crossbow. "They are easier to conceal and near-silent with fired compared to a gun", was his reasoning. Her first kill was a poly-therian, a middle-aged man working as a bouncer of a nightclub. She stalked him, observed his daily activities and offed him with three silver bolts the moment he changed into a leopard. As a reward, her mentor forged a pair of earring from its bones for her. At the age of twenty-five, when he deemed she was good enough to strike out on her own, he left her in Gravette. She didn't mind, using the first few months as a break in hunting. Instead, she bought a place of her own, a landed house with a basement she converted into a medical bay. The property itself wasn't very big, but her basement was easily split into the medical bay and cold storage. Being only one person, she didn’t need it to be very large. During her years hunting with the man, she ended up collecting samples of her kills as souvenirs, be it a bit of fur or a single feather, all of which are kept in the top drawer of her cupboard. In order to blend into the society, she applied for a job at the local hospital. The position allowed her more freedom for working hours - which does her night job wonders, and seeing as she was not the only orthopaedic surgeon there. She has been living in Gravette for three years now, and hasn’t found an excuse to leave. Weapons: - Collapsible titanium bo staff with retractable spearhead made out of pure silver on each end. These points activate with a twist of the wrist from the hand-hold of the staff, clockwise on one end and anti-clockwise on the other. She tucks this into a sheath at her right hip. - A rapid-fire crossbow designed to shoot one arrow every second if the trigger is held down. If fired in a semi-automatic manner, it can shoot twenty-four bolts before needing to be reloaded. The limbs of the crossbow can be folded, as can the stock, and the sniper scope is detachable. Compacted, the crossbow can be fitted into a suitcase, and assembling all parts for use will only take her less than half a minute, as she can aim without the scope if the situation is dire. Spare ammunition is kept in the suitcase. This is her main hunting weapon. - She keeps a compact medical first aid kit on her at all times in the form of a padded leather pouch looped through her belt and seated at her left hip. It contains compression bandages, burn dressing, iodine solution, a small injection syringe and morphine shots, antibiotic ointment and packets of gauze dipped in clotting agents. Supernatural Target: Kei specializes in hunting therians (weres), but also makes a point to hunt Supernaturals who manipulates the wills of humans as she abhors the idea of mind-slaves. Strengths: 1) Skilled medic: From a simple flesh wounds to fractures limbs, given the right equipment, she can treat them. 2) Skilled marksman with the crossbow and polearms expert 3) Agile and fast, what she lacks in strength and stamina, she makes up for with quick reflexes, stealthiness and evasive maneuvers Weaknesses: 1) She is not physically strong, nor does she have good endurance. Although she is fit, she cannot hope to best the average Supernatural in direct, close combat. 2) While she is stealthy for a human and takes care to remove traces of unique human scent, any Supernatural with an enhanced sense of smell can pick out the scent of blood clinging to her due to her non-Hunter profession. Stance: Active Other: N/A
