Think of it like a berserker. It allows them ignore their wounds and carry on fighting even if their body is broken. It's actually quite dangerous, but as far as I know, nobody has sustained mortal wounds as of yet. 

You can consider it to be a temporary healing spell, it doesn't do any permanent fixing.
