Jinzo Kurogama

Abandoned Mansion | Human World
[@Oblivion666][@yoshua171] The world was on fire. Screams pierced the pitch-black sky as the sounds of clashing steel rang out, easily depicting the cacophony of battle as it raged all around him. Jinzo stood motionless, mouth agasp as he was forced to witness the horrors of that fateful night. Masked figures draped in black cloaks were cutting down each and every one of his fellow Shinigami right in front of him. He could feel an unknown anger swell up inside him. His attention was brought to the fore when another figure, the same as the rest, appeared a few meters in front of him. He couldn't make out any distinctive markings but the feral growl confirmed that this thing was not normal. Instinct told him to reach for his zanpakuto but his hand would not move. Panic began to circle like a wily predator as he willed his hand to move once again, this time a grimace filling his face. He struggled against an invisible force to move his arm and only through a herculean effort did he manage to finally place his hand on the hilt of his blade. Abnormally worn out, he turned his attention from his hand back to the creature in front of him, ragged breathing overcoming him from his struggle to move. It had sauntered closer by now and had suddenly drawn its' own zanpakuto. Jinzo steeled his nerves and tried to draw his sword but to no avail. He tried again, yanking at the hilt several times as the thorns of panic slowly wrapped themselves around his heart. The creature was drawing nearer, its' earlier growl having changed into the barely recognizable sound of laughter. Sweat began to ooze from the pores of his skin as a wave of goosebumps washed over him, Jinzo finally began to panic, still attempting to draw his zanpakuto. The creature was upon him now, Jinzo tried to move backwards but the attempt was met only by pain. He looked down to find the creature's blade piercing his chest, he felt his legs give way underneath him and his body fall to its' knees, the sounds of combat dulled by the rush of blood pounding in his ears. By now the masked invader was laughing maniacally, all the while carefully and painstakingly digging his blade deeper into Jinzo's flesh. His world began to darken, with only the feeling of horror to comfort him. His last image was that of his Captain, Sannouske, falling in battle clutching his throat as bloody gore spilled between his fingers. Jinzo opened his eyes and breathed. 'Just a nightmare.' He thought. Another in a recent string of disturbing images that had plagued his sleep of late. He pushed himself off of the wall he'd been leaning up against, noticing that almost everyone had arrived to hear the Captain Commander's speech. He'd been one of the earliest to arrive, even despite the internal argument he'd had with himself to stay in bed just five minutes longer. No, it had been four months since the Commander had cobbled together what was left of the Old Gotei Thirteen and this was to be his first major announcement. Though normally Jinzo could have cared less, he was beginning to think that these nightmares, coupled with his deep-seated regret over the night of the attack, were starting to change him. 'Nonsense!' He thought to himself, shaking his head with a frown. Once everyone had showed, Commander Yanagi began his prepared statement. Jinzo listened along, partially. Most of it was fluff, aimed to rile everyone up but he just couldn't buy it. Everyone, except himself, had had their asses kicked five years ago. How could he expect a few words to make up for that? Nonetheless, Jinzo gave the man another chance. He noted the Commander's plan, it certainly was a different approach. After the previous attempts to regain the Seireitei had failed, Jinzo had resigned himself to the Human World. It wasn't such a bad place after all and it meant that his time remained unburdened by the weight of responsibility. But this plan would certainly change things, he would be expected to act in accordance with everyone else, which meant seeking out the enemy, which meant fighting. He questioned, again, why he'd gotten out of bed so early in the first place. After all, this was starting to sound like a bad idea to him. But something kept him stood there. Stood amongst his fellows, the ones who had truly fought and lost everything all those years ago. A pang of regret struck him, not for the first time and as the Commander made to leave the Mansion, Jinzo followed swiftly behind. "So you got a plan there, Commander? 'Cause if Kurogama got lazy he probably fell asleep on the stairs!" "Pssh! And just who're you calling lazy, Third Seat?" He exclaimed, suddenly appearing behind Yūbina Hōshakō, the man from the Second Division who was to be his squad-mate, alongside Old Man Serizawa and the Commander himself. "Maybe you oughta stop throwing out insults and focus more on your rear, 'cause if this was a fight, I'd have got you dead!" He laughed.
