This actually isn't my entry for the contest, but I wrote it for fun and decided to put it here.
1. Her parents establish a no swearing policy in the house when she's only four years old. The swear jar becomes an unending source of curiosity throughout her childhood, filling up with precious coins every time anyone failed to hold in a particularly harsh curse. She adopts profanity soon after the policy is first instituted. Much to the disappointment of her parents, it doesn’t take long for her to become the most prolific contributor to the swear jar. It does, however, take an embarrassingly long time for her to realise that the family income wasn’t increasing. 2. Her first brush with fighting occurs in the playground. A group of bullies, childish little boys with more pride than sense, thought that her little sister would be an easy mark. She doesn’t remember what gets her involved. When the haze of red fades from her eyes, she finds herself standing over the bruised, bloodied bodies of the bullies. Her body is assailed by so many new sensations - the rapid beating of her little heart; the addictive rush of adrenaline through her veins; the feeling of absolute power over another - that she doesn’t know how to articulate. It doesn’t stop her from liking them. 3. Sometimes she wonders whether or not she would be fit for a criminal lifestyle. The prospect appeals to her more than it should. Obtaining wealth and power would be so much quicker, so much easier. The she wonders what her family would think. She isn’t so pathetic enough to discard her parents’ teachings for the sake of ambition. After she rescues Bianca, left a broken shell by her time with the Dodici, Gratia Mindaro never wonders again. 4. Hating Napoli comes as easily to her as breathing. She knows that it isn’t logical to be so fixated on a single individual, but every single thing about him only makes her want to kill him. Ever since their eyes first met that day at Haven, she’s despised his very being. The day he leaves for Mistral, she feels as if some part of her has left as well. 5. She doesn’t remember when she first started making friends. She doesn’t really care either.
