There are a few choices. If the government is Bureaucratic, they might retain "Midwest" in the name. If they want to reflect a region, native American terms might work. "Potawatomi" could be used, a tribal group originating from Michigan. After reading up on all the choices though, I have to say that if I were in your position, I'd probably use some variation of "Gitche-Gumee". It's a Native American term for Lake Superior, the translation meaning "Great Water", which is a pretty good description of the Great Lakes as a whole. It also in that [url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFkyDB2InTs]Gordon Lightfoot[/url] song, which probably helped sell it to me.

Though really, Aaron would be better at picking something out for that region, since he's part of that culture and would know the terms preferred up thataway.
