History: Colonel Pale began life on Nal Hutta, son of the chief bodyguard to a mid-level Hutt gangster. From his father he learned the basics of combat: how to fight, how to shoot, how to keep your head under pressure, how to kill a man up close. He was twelve when his father and his father's employer were killed in internecine Hutt feuding, and he quickly fell in with a bounty hunter named Krel zo Doran, a Quarren gun-for-hire with a reputation for calculated brutality. For seven years he grew under Doran's tutelage, learning the details of the bounty trade and building a reputation of his own. Even as he thrived as a hunter and assassin, Pale grew to detest the stink and chaos of Nal Hutta and Hutt Space generally, and the constant feuding and bloodshed left him disgusted. His casual use of narcotics quickly grew to a serious addiction. His life changed when he and Doran accepted a contract on behalf of the Republic at the height of Clone Wars, tracking down Seperatist suppliers and agents across the Outer Rim. Over the course of these missions, Doran was killed, but Pale was noticed by Republic intelligence and offered a chance to join the cause. He snapped up the opportunity, his life changed by the order, discipline and purpose of Military Intelligence. He supported the fall of the Republic and the creation of the Empire whole-heartedly, and though he detests the frequent excesses of the Imperial Military, he sees such brutality as often necessary in the cause of a greater good- providing the subjects of the Empire with order, security and the rule of law, all things noticeably absent during his youth in the violent urban wasteland of Nal Hutta. Now part of the Imperial Security Bureau, Pale made a name for himself when he managed to track down and kill the rogue Jedi Master and terrorist Plennic Odo. Pale used Odo's former mistress, Vaila, and their young daughter, Kae, to lure the jedi into a trap. In the course of the operation, Odo managed to deflect a blaster bolt into Pale's face, destroying his left eye and leaving him badly burned. Pale has never replaced his missing eye, wearing a metal patch over the socket as a reminder never to underestimate even prey that has been hopelessly trapped. He adopted Kae, the Jedi's daughter, as his own protegee and ward, partly to protect her from the underlings of Lord Vader, who were known to snuff out or kidnap potential force-sensitives. Kae now commands Storm trooper forces detailed to Pale's command. Since his successful liquidation of Odo twenty years ago, Pale has risen steadily through the ranks as a master of counter insurgency and special operations. Now a Colonel, he commands a ISB Special Detachment based on the Imperial Star Destroyer Lycurgus. He operates with relative independence from the regular military, and his mandate is to purge rebel sympathizers from Imperial ranks while hunting down guerilla operatives. It is a role at which he excels. He has made plenty of enemies in the Empire since- his opposition to orbital bombardment or mass repression as go-to answers to rebel provocations (though his objections to mass slaughter are more pragmatic than moral to be sure) puts him at odds with many in the Army and Navy, as does his fondness for investigating Imperial commanders for corruption or rebel sympathies. In particular, his rivalry with the Inquisitorius is rather fierce, and he disdains their adherence to what he sees as the outmoded Jedi creed and their preoccupation with magic. He is hated by the Alliance too, though not necessarily by name. The Lycurgus has a reputation for being present at rebel disasters, and its presence in a system alone is enough to dissuade many rebel commanders from attempting operations. Rumors of a persistent narcotics habit have dogged him for years, and it his known he is a heavy smoker and drinker and a bon-vivant, with a flamboyance considered unbecoming an Imperial of his rank and status.
