Type of Government: Maerinum is lead by an emperor, who elects an heir shortly before his death. The Maerinum people believe that whilst women are powerful in their own rights, they lack the strength of character to be an Emperor, and as such there are no female leaders. 

There is, however, a Senate, a group of extremley powerful and skilled people who are masters of their field, of both genders, who advise the emperor in matters that he is not as well versed in. The Senate can also veto an heir if they feel that he is unfit for rule, and can rule in stead should an heir not be elected and there is no emperor.
