"Forget all your preconceptions of war, of battle-lines clashing in the churned ground. Your mission is to attack before the foe even realizes that the war has begun, to strike hard at those vital weaknesses that all armies possess, but that no commander will admit to. Under my tutelage you will learn how to seek out such fragilities and smite them with every weapon at your disposal. Master these duties and I will have nothing more to teach, and you will truly be a Space Marine." -Sergeant Torias Telion, Ultramarines 10th Company Hello Peoples! This my an interest check for one of the few times I get off my ass to actually GM something. I have had this idea brewing for a short while now and figured it might be fun to attempt. In this Rp all players will take on the roll of a newly minted scout marine. A youth who, through fire and determination has survived the rigorous and often grueling training of their superiors, Their bodies fully accepting the many bio-implants and genetic alterations forced upon them, and have earned the right to finally wear and utilize the wargear of their beloved chapter. However limited their access to such hallowed equipment may be. You are all young, strong and determined to make your mark and prove yourselves worthy of your chapters name and this great opportunity to serve the Emperor in such a glorious and honoured means. For all of you this is your first real combat deployment. Your first true test. Everything up until the moment of deployment. Each pain accepted, limb broken and psycological torment endured through sheer force of will has only been to prepare you all for this. War.... This one act that will become your sole purpose of existence for the rest of your lives. Potentially centuries worth of battles and thousands of enemies might be slain by you personally as you carve a name for yourself in the flesh of the Emperor's foes. If you survive your time as a scout anyway. Some details about the scout marines. mostly fluff i wrote for fun to get the mood going.
Space marines are not immortal. They are not invincible and they are not unkillable. Though it certainly takes more effort to fell such a powerful warrior it does happen. And the chapters of the adeptus astartes are all forced to keep a constant flow of recruits through their doors. Between battlefield losses and the grueling rites of initiation, physical punishment and genetic tampering each marine is forced to undergo Attrition rates are attrocious even before a space marine has earn the right to call himself such, And wear the hallowed power armour and colours of his chapter. Every Chapter of Space Marines must recruit new warriors into its ranks in order to survive. The process varies from Chapter to Chapter, many recruiting from their own homeworlds. These are often feral worlds, breeding tough, harsh new recruits. Whatever the tradition of a particular Chapter, warriors must always be chosen when they are still young, before their bodies become too mature to accept the many bio-implants. Once accepted, the genetic implantation and induction of the Space Marine organs begins. The warrior has taken his first steps to becoming a full fledged Space Marine. During those years, the warrior is known as a Neophyte, or Space Marine Scout -- he is neither fully a Space Marine nor entirely a normal human. The Scout is then placed under the tutelage of a sergeant who will oversee his induction and training and also lead the Scouts in battle. Not yet ready to join a company, the young Scouts live alongside their brothers in the 10th Company halls where they will sleep and train, learning the history of their Chapter. Space Marine Scouts are neither as tough nor as experienced as full Space Marines. Scouts can fight alongside other Space Marines in the main battle-lines, and often do so, during moments of desperation. Only after a Scout has proven himself in combat will his sergeant judge him worthy of the title of Space Marine, and declare him ready to join one of the companies.
Ok, down to brass tacks. For this rp I am looking for no more than eight people but that number is pushing things. I might keep it closer to five or six.. I'm still debating whether to keep you in one group or split you all into two. It depends on how much interest there is in this idea. I am possibly looking for a Co-Gm. Someone to at least help play the small army of NPCs and the like. Help iron out some story points, act as a wall/editor that I can throw a few half-baked ideas at and see what sticks.
Marines Exemplar
Specifically you are members of the Marines Exemplar. One of the hallowed Chapters of the Astartes Praeses. Those twenty august chapters whose sole vigil and duty is to guard the Eye of Terror, and prevent the hellish denizens within from attempting another foolhardy crusade into realspace. Even more so than other Space marines your purpose is to combat the arch enemy. Either taking the fight directly to them or wiping out any attempt to spread their foul influence into the Imperium. But now The 13th Black Crusade of Abaddon the Despoiler has begun in 999.M41 the largest mobilization of both Imperial and Chaotic forces seen in the Milky Way Galaxy since the Horus Heresy was witnessed. From the eye of terror spilt the forces of chaos is such legion as to throw even the carefully prepared Imperial defence into dissarray and panick. Currently the conflict is at something of a stalemate. After the initial chaos offensive the imperial forces were pushed back on nearly all fronts. Coupled with sudden spike in Ork Waaagh and pirate Kroosades, and a disturbing number of Tyranid splinter fleets making their presence known and the ever opportunistic and cruel Dark Eldar quick to sieze any opportunity and pounce upon a distracted foe.... Suffice to say things around the Eye of terror are not pleasant. The word Clusterfuck is perhaps the most fitting descriptor. However surprised the Imperium was by the onslaught of threats from so many angles., it not caught with its pants around its proverbial ankles. The Imperium had it's own legions of warriors in place to push back against this threat and push back they did. Holding Chaos and the xenos at bay long enough as Imperial forces across the galaxy rallied themselves and reinforced in a show of strength ground the enemy advance to a halt on most worlds. To add to this the Imperium has found surprising help from the Xenos races of the Eldar and Necrons who have begun harassing ork and Chaos threats. While not allies in the slightest sense, the Imperium for the time will not look such a horse in the mouth, And is giving both xenos races plenty of room to continue.... whatever it is they are doing. For the time being at least there is stability. Or at least as much stability as can be hoped for during a Black Crusade. One of the many military elements to be deployed to the beligured regions sorrounding the Eye are nearly nine full companies of the hallowed Space Marine chapter 'Marines Exemplar'. To support these companies are of course numerous auxiliiary personal. Elements of the chapters librarium, Recluisiary and the armoury of the techmarines have been plucked for the finest individuals and wargear available to the chapter. The chapters Initiates of the tenth company are also called to honourable service. Now more than ever good men will be needed to replace the soon to be vacant ranks of the chapters fallen. But they will not accept any man into their number who cannot first prove himself an asset to the chapter and to the Imperium. Proved worth the time and resources put into sculpting him into an angel of Death incarnate. Black Crusade or no, corners will not be cut and standards will not slip in the training and selection of recruits. Such things can only lead to ruin for the chapter in the long term.
Important
And before anyone asks. No, you cannot be from another chapter, no you cannot be a full fledged space marine and no you can't be an ork or a tau or a space wolf or whatever the hell else it is I am inevitably going to be asked about. You are playing scout marines of the Marines Exemplar chapter. Also for anyone interested here is a link to the wiki page for the Marines Exemplar. there isn't much written about them cannon wise which is exactly why I picked them for this RP. They have no established personality quirks or customs to be played around that are known. Some of these details can be made up. Small ceremonies, a figure of speech unique to the chapter maybe. All things the players are free to talk about. Marines Exemplar
