He could teach them a lot, and he was a sucker for cubs, but he didn't want to cause tension..Especially with Nikko, considering he remembered his father and his mother hanging out with a lion around her age might seem..suspicious. 

Even if Nikko was a cub, Cyren wouldn't underestimate any intellect he had.
