Just being the GM. I grew up playing roleplaying games with friends and relatives around a kitchen table, so tend to default to that sort of thinking - I enjoy running the NPCs and prefer keeping the spotlight on the player characters as a GM. There's no shortage of great games around here that I can [s]accidentally sabotage[/s] take part in as a player to scratch my Hylozoist-as-a-player itch!
