What was even worse came just a few moments later as some sort of dart whistled through the dust. It was a fleeting instant that lingered forever to Desmond as reality around him seemed to slow down to a crawl while he stared at the ever so slowly moving object. Time had not slowed down for everyone, if anything he had sped up greatly, but the instant this strange little dart came close to him it was all he could do not to scream from surprise. A mere knife or bullet would pass fairly easily through his insubstantial body, lacking any real solidity to begin with, but every inch of his body screamed in horror at the realization of why he feared it. If Desmond acted like a giant magnet attracting magic to him, these men he now realized, carried the opposite. Something capable of repelling magic entirely. That simple thought coupled with his predicament of being comprised entirely of magic was not a pleasant one to fathom. For now it was time to leave. Quickly. But these men blocked the way, no doubt they would overpower this group and destroy Desmond if they got the chance. Fight or flight instincts were at full throttle in his mind. Escaping would only save himself and even then for how long? It was time to see what he could really do. The words to spells had never come ti his mind, not like the others, but he had experienced his own capabilities the day he had become something else entirely. His form was weapon and vessel both mashed together in an unstable glob of human resemblance. One such instance had forced a speck of this power out and became.. disastrous. Without the regulation of his subconscious, the roiling sea of essence within was almost like a bomb. If they could repel magic, Desmond wanted to know how much it could repel and how much he could muster. His clothing fell away from him as he readied his attack, the stars in the night sky shone from seemingly every inch of his 'skin' as it churned in waves. The cosmos itself seemed to be standing amidst the magi gathered here. A harsh purple intensity shone from where his eyes would be on a normal person, but more shining motes dotted his appearance as the once pristine surface grew increasingly agitated. Controlling the explosion would be simple. Desmond had performed this on a smaller scale a few times since, near as he could tell, ascending to a higher plane of existence. Thrusting his arms forward, the collected energy ignited the moment it left his 'body'. The size of a mans torso, this chunk of essence roared to life. A flowing river of stars bursting amidst the black backdrop of the nights sky, directed in a cone away from the group towards the assailants, a majority was aimed at the ground beneath them. The inferno of purple would eat through anything it touched with ease. A fingers worth of his essence had nearly turned a car to scrap. If he was lucky, even if these people could shrug off the intensity, the ground and surroundings would not be so kind. Thought it had only been a few seconds, Desmond felt the effects keenly. A fingers worth had been nothing. This amount nearly shattered him. The bulky outline of a human was shriveling into a thin reed, a shadow of his former power. "Run!" His call echoed in the room.
