Add a good bit of grey. Lose the beard and mustache. His always grows in scraggly. Most of the time he looks more like a bum as he hates shaving, but he cleaned up for the convention. He always wears blue jeans, a black T shirt and tennis shoes (with velcro straps) or short work boots (pull on). His belt is black with a double row of holes. He also wears a soft leather glove on his left hand and walks with a limp on his left leg. Biography: Duncan was born gifted. Unfortunately it was to poor parents. In today's society he would probably have found programs to push him ahead into higher education while still a kid. But in the 60's and 70's the programs and funding simply wasn't there. So he became self-motivated. As a kid - before Hollywood went crazy with movies - he read voraciously, literally going through whole libraries. He entered his first short story contest at age 12 and took first place. Later that year he published his first book (a short story collection). By 15 he added a book that was a trilogy of novelettes and a third book that was a complete novel. All of his books have been science fiction. Age 15 was a pivotal period in Duncan’s life. His family life was a mess that involved abuse, gang activities. He ended up an orphan and forgotten by his step family. He managed to emancipate himself to finish school. In 1980 he had no idea what he wanted to do like so many other teens facing adult life. So he decided to put matters off and earn money at the same time. He joined the military - USAF. Now his natural abilities with a rifle probably would have made him a sniper, but he had been recruited for an uncanny knack for languages. Besides at that time there had been a critical need to Russian Linguists to deal with the threat of the Soviets. At the end of the 80's it was the end of the Cold War. The Berlin Wall had come down and NSA was downsizing. Duncan had saved about 75% of his income in mutual funds, as well as stocks like Coca Cola, Pepsi, and Microsoft. (He predicted Windows in 1982.) He left the USAF after 8.5 years of service. He had completed most of the coursework for a triple bachelor degree through the University of Maryland. After leaving service in 1989 he turned down an offer to continue on as a civilian GS 12 in favor of concentrating on college to complete his degrees. He completed a double doctorate in 1994 (just before string theory came out) in Physics and Chemistry and secured a job in Albuquerque. In 2000 the lab Duncan worked in was downsized. He and over half the lab to lose jobs. It was a recession anywhere meant a substantial drop in pay. The university wanted him to teach Physics, but he lacked current knowledge of string theory. He could have taught 1st and 2nd year courses - and probably should have. But he was bored. He decided to try other things. He spent a couple years doing rehab construction. Then, as work in that field dried up he decided to throw everything into storage and become a trucker. In 2002 he became a trucker. In 2012 he retired at the age of 50. His investments had made continuing to work simply not worth the hassle. He politely and happily told his last company to take the job and shove it. Within a few months he was bored silly and decided to start travelling. Personality: Intelligent, generous to a fault. Duncan is the sort of person who has trouble letting go of a problem he thinks he can solve. But he is practical about it. If he is forced to let go, it will eat at him. Duncan always had a powerful love of science and science fiction. He's studied and excelled at any 'hard' science (non - biological, always the top of the class, or in the top few percent. In college he was a lab assistant and tutor while still an undergraduate, earning Student of the Year awards every time. His mental blocks have been anything regarding electronics and mechanics. He is a collector to the point of being a packrat. Kept in 3 storage units. He has a collection of thousand of books - mostly science fiction and fantasy, but also a collection of books covering how to rebuild civilization - everything from stone knives and solar ovens to IC chips, simple robots, nuclear generators and lasers. These books have been transferred to a digital format. He is always ordering books through the university. He was also SCAdian (initially in the Shire of Perilous Journey - Berlin) and still has his collection of swords (real and rattan), armor, cloaks, knives, camping gear, feast gear. Also a part of his collection is a group of rifles and pistols, most of which he has never used or done anything but clean and register. These were inherited and something he planned to sell as their presence just brings back dark memories. These include 30-06's, various shotguns, some 19th century Mauser rifles with iron sights, and more. None are military weapons that would require special licensing. Most were used for hunting everything from small game to large safari type game. There is also a hunting bow and arrows. As it is a felony to transport projectile weapons across state lines, they stay in storage. Should Duncan need to use the weapons, he's NEVER missed with a rifle despite having no real caring for hunting or sport. (He gets this from his mother is his best guess.) He has 20/13 vision and superb night vision. Pistols are a completely different matter. He loathes them. Even a 22 pistol makes his hands hurt. He has a blued 8 inch barrel 44 mag revolver (a real Dirty Hairy weapon) bought originally for his mother. He's quite good with a sword and shield (not Kendo or fencing). He's also a 'crack shot' with a sling (the David and Goliath sort) - a skill he picked up as a kid when he used to play Chicken with his brother. Purpose: Duncan saw his first UFO at age 12 in Albuquerque, NM. The next day he figured out what it was - the emergency lights of a small aircraft that was crashing in the Sandia Mountains. So maybe it wasn’t aliens. But he had always been interested in UFOlogy. He had grown up with Star Trek, the lunar landing, Project Blue Book. He had gone into intelligence with hopes to see classified records of aliens. (Never happened.) Did he believe that people had been abducted? All that Roswell crap? Hell no. But in 2012 he decided to go to a convention. That trip changed his life. You see he managed to make some people angry by asking too many questions about their experiences when their stories didn’t add up. So he found a new calling. Debunking their stories. In 2014 his research took him to Dugway Proving grounds, known by many as Area 51. That was when some of the answers he got from the Army and Airforce didn’t add up. Soon after that he started to notice he was being followed. Mobility and Gear RV or 5th wheel RV (internet issues a problem, so will get a pic up tomorrow)
