If by balanced, you mean sucking at everything. in fire emblem, if all your stats are neutral, you're not strong enough to hurt anything, too slow, too fragile, and too inaccurate.
Uh... not sure where that came from, but eh. I like the soldiers where they were playable. And, uh, then I suppose their stats weren't neutral, seeing how they did damage and were not exactly either fragile, inaccurate or slow? They were commendable and respectable fighters, plenty armored so no need to fear their lives immediately even though they still lost to Knights in armor but maintained the mobility of the other classes. Their attack wasn't the strongest, sure, but they held commendably well and had no other weak points, so I really liked them. I realize now that there were only two playable ones, but I liked those two. Seeing how those Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn didn't have Mercenaries as a class, I suppose it was their overall-class, thing. Not sure how the stats looked for them, but I liked them, anyways. Edit: Of course, they don't need to appear since this is based on a game within which they were not playable, but I just wished to state my useless liking to the class. Haha.
