Name: Riley Aught Occupation: Chief Surgeon of the Skyshark Reason for travel: A personal debt to Lord Higgins, being paid off in the Skyshark's initial voyage. Favourite weapon: Scalpel Description (Physical): Riley's body is borderline anorexic, with her straggly long brown hair put off into a sidetail. She typically wears loose-fitting coats, blouses and skirts that are inevitably marked with the blood and other stains from her work on the ship. Her left eye is missing, covered up by a head-mounted contraption that allows several lens of magnification to be placed over her right eye. Concept: Blissful, unhinged doctor Personality: Riley is happily married to her work... for better or worse. She's afraid to have much responsibility beyond what others are willing to delegate to her, and can thus appear at times to be cowardly. In a position of responsibility or command, Riley can all too easily gravitate towards egotism. She's aware of this and is deathly afraid of repeating past mistakes. Riley's loyal to those who respect her and is frequently very amicable to the crews and individuals her job entails interaction with. As a surgeon, she sees it as a matter of pride that those she can help are well-taken care of. Subconsciously, she surrounds herself with those who tend to think for her, and doesn't often notice this tendency. Without feeling kept in check by other people, Riley does not believe she's capable of being a reasonable person. History: Captured as a child by a band of mercenary pirates, Riley grew up alongside cutthroats and connivers. Never a strong leader, a good fighter or a decent deckhand, she learned from the ship's surgeon/cook Kull Grandy "what holes could be patched up and what limbs needed choppin'". Riley's skills developed to a impressive extent and gained the friendship and respect of her former captors when, after a particularly grueling battle involving cannon-mounted sky turtles, she was unable to ensure the mercenary captain survived her wounds. An unexpected turn came when, upon having to choose a new captain, the crew elected Riley as captain of the Midnight Blade. Massively inexperienced and uncomfortable leading dozens of others at the age of 23, this did not end well for Riley. After several crew deaths, a crippling dueling incident, a spectacularly failed heist upon the Stormgate Stronghold and multiple instances of flagrant tyranny, the crew voted to abandon Riley to a creature-infested jungle island. She survived there for almost two years before being found by a stray adventuring craft led by a man named Lord Higgins. He allowed her travel on his ship before retiring himself and asking her for one singular favor, with promises of possible future bounties. She's employed on the Skyshark and is very much content to sew up wounds, wishing to put her turbulent past behind her and help whomever she can.
