It's because the link between the img tags isn't to an image file, so browsers get all foncused by it. I'm not sure whether or not DeviantArt allows for hotlinking (you could put http://orig01.deviantart.net/d670/f/2007/300/d/c/lorwyn_faerie_by_bonnivin.jpg in between a pair of img tags and find out, I guess), but it's probably better to just have a link to the page with the image on it so that the author gets credit and love for it.
