Being one of the stragglers for the sake of going with Siena, she was presented with the opportunity to get a good look at everyone on her way to the back of the class. She couldn't resist looking past Brent and the girl in the far front corner in favor of focusing on Emma. She felt certain there'd be little chance of measuring up if that was her competition. Assuming she ever actually decided to do anything about the small crush on her roommate she'd been forced to come to terms with in the past hour. Though the odds of her doing such a thing were getting slimmer and slimmer at this point. Dating a roommate was probably a horrible idea to begin with anyway. Besides... Emma was a stereotypical type of pretty-- a mold Callan had tried and failed to fit into plenty of times before. It was probably best not to dwell on in too much. A much younger looking girl with messy blonde hair sat beside Emma-- possibly Dom's age judging by her size. She didn't want to think about Dom being in a place like this. The idea was depressing, so she decided to move on. Kusari sat in the seat behind Brent. "That's not to say I didn't mean it, I thought you looked cute so I just said it." She purposely looked past her, hoping the girl wouldn't look her way. As confused as it made her feel, the memory did soothe some of the insecurities that had been writhing in the back of her mind ever since lunch. Behind the seat beside Kusari, she spotted Lawrence-- smack dab in the middle of the room. He seemed as calm and collected as that day she approached him in the library. Then there was Zoe-- she was cool. And then, in the seat beside the one in front of her-- Grant. She hadn't seen him at all the past few days. He was probably still torn up about Padma... poor guy. The far corner, besides Ernie, was filled with more people she didn't know. She curiously eyed the taller boy sitting in front of Ernie a hair longer than she did the other no-names, but didn't think much of it as she took her seat between the white haired guy and-- wait, hadn't there been someone else sitting in that seat to her right? Oh, well.... Listening to Mr. Francisco's explanation of the electives, missing classmates, and horribly named 'Flag and Seek' game, she was hesitant to feel too excited about it at first. She was still unsure of how a game like this was going to turn out. Looking at the names on team one, she tried to think back to the fight, but couldn't recall seeing much of what the other kids could do besides her teammates and Emma-- much less remember any other names that might've been mentioned. She knew that someone was able to either turn into or summon a dragon. And then there had been that one kid Shane had had to put in time out-- oh yeah. She glanced at the taller boy sitting at the end of her row by the window. That was the guy, wasn't it? Emma's tulpas seemed strong, but besides that-- who else might be able to give her a good run for her money? Normally her desire to participate in these sort of school assignments would cave under the weight of her laziness, but nothing had been remotely normal lately. This was superhero training, as far as she was concerned. She wanted to kick ass and take names the next time any DC creatures tried 'kicking up dirt'-- as Fredric had put it. She wanted a decent sparring partner-- no offense to poor Kusari. The idea of being able to skip out on a week's worth of classes was pretty tantalizing as well. She read through the names of the opposing team several times. Sander... Angel... Marcus... and Grant. So that just left Sander and Angel. Not that Marcus and Grant's abilities were 'weak' per se (she fully expected Marcus to be a decent flag-stealing thorn in her team's side with that blink of his), but surely Sander or Angel were on Team One for a reason. One of them were sure to fit the bill as far as power equivalency went. Hopefully she'd find out which one before the game started that afternoon. Classes flew by as Callan set to work on getting her phone just the way she wanted it. One whole class period of searching through google for a decent background image ended with a rather generic looking selection, but she felt it was fitting-- not to mention it reminded her of that place. Procrastinating by perusing the Death and Taxes chat and fiddling with her more minute phone settings for a time, she finally got around to recreating her facebook account and sending her mother a message. She felt a heavy feeling of guilt as she tapped the words into existence.
Hey mom. Sorry it took me so long to message you. They deleted all my social media accounts and I've been held up with lots of stuff. I'm doing okay though. Are you guys staying with Grandpa while you find a new house? I hope you're all doin okay. Could you send me everyone's number when you get the chance? I've got a new phone. Love you.
Send. If her mom's schedule was anything like it used to be before she leveled their house, she probably wouldn't get a response until later that night. Locking the phone and slipping it into pocket, Callan used the remainder of Chemistry to fill out the elective form-- doodling stars and squiggles in the margins once finished. This was pure excitement and adrenaline. Even amidst the surreal spookiness of Ground Zero, nothing seemed capable of dampening her mood at this point. Every chance she got, her eyes flitted to the members of her group as she tried to guess who was who among the unfamiliar faces. Finally, as the teams were separated, her eyes fell on the two that could only be Sander and Angelique. Remembering the scuffle with Shane, she felt more inclined to stare at the former with a keen interest before facing the rest of her team. With unwavering confidence and a powerful pep in her step, she clapped her hands together and took a deep breath. Let's do this.
