That kind of odd ending appears to be popular in anime, too. Naruto ended with shitty pairings as well. It wasn't WEIRD to me so much as it was random. They went a long stretch of time without even talking regularly, then he randomly kissed her in one of the books which felt extremely forced. Rowling seemed like she was trying to bring their relationship back to life when they weren't even really friends. A one-sided crush doesn't make for much development, and Ginny got over it by Azkaban. My predicament is that I'm writing two people full of shit and cringing my ass off. I'll get it done though.
