He often wears a dark long-coat and gloves. Height: 7'2'' (2.18 m) Age: 16 Gender: Male Race: Human Power:
- it is his title, his power, his duty, and curse all in one. As the Guardian of the Silver Key, he is effectively unkillable as well as immortal - at least until he passes on the Key. He will age, but he cannot be killed or even harmed for that matter - he can be restrained as easily as any normal human, however. Unfortunately, this only applies to beings that are residents of this worlds reality; against the monsters from beyond the Dreamers' Dream, he's but an ordinary human. As the Guardian of the Silver Key, he is afforded the ability to discern the true nature of whoever he speaks to - in other words, no falsehood can fool him, and no potential can remain hidden. Lies are useless as are illusions or hypnosis. He can invade or cause others to have dreams, and from those dreams drive the weak of will to madness and insanity - an ability which he has only used once and an ability he uses scarcely, because of what it involves - something he'd rather not draw to his attention. He can communicate to others from within their dreams as well. Another facet of his dream-manipulation is to return a person back to their happiest moment, almost as if they had gone back in time - which, in fact, they have, if only temporarily. His final ability as the Guardian is the ability to pass on the Silver Key, and name someone as his successor. Upon doing so, Edward shall finally be allowed to die.
Asides from his innate abilities, he is trying to learn how to use magic, which is another explanation for his presence at the Academy. Personality: Laid-back, taciturn, yet optimistic and cheerful, Edward does not look or act like someone saddled with a heavy burden - or rather it is in spite of that burden that he remains cheerful. He is sociable, friendly, and generally a nice person. He dislikes getting into conflict and conflict in general, though he is not adverse to it totally as a solution. Despite his laid-back attitude, however, he is sharp and attentive - rarely does anything slip by his notice, even if he doesn't call attention to it. Still he is rather hands-off when it comes to involving himself with other people's problems unless it is to a degree that it cannot simply be ignored. If there was a color to describe Edward then the best would be "black" - an all accepting color that still does change its shade even when others are being added to it. In someways, it's an evil color - in others, it is comforting. Background: Edward is the latest in the "Carter" Guardians - all who inherit the Key also inherit the name. For years, he was an orphan begging on the streets, stealing when he needed to, or starving when he couldn't. That was until he met Matthew D. Carter, his predecessor. As he was on deaths doorstep, beaten and starving, old man took him in, and raised him as his own, and for once in his life, Edward knew what it was like to have a father, and felt new kind of happiness - happiness that went beyond having three meals a day, or having somewhere warm to sleep. Still, he was aware that this feeling would not last forever. Matthew had raised him for a specific purpose, a purpose that he repeated to him day after day, for seven years. He was to be the next Carter - he had to. For the Guardian of the Silver Key cannot remain the same for too long; Guardians, for all the abilities they are given, are still human. Whether they can age or die or don't, the years will still take their toll. Their strength and will drain, and they slip. They make mistakes - and for the Guardian, even one slip is enough to cause a catastrophe beyond human reckoning. When a Guardian loses his will to live, that is when it is time to find his successor - and Matthew, at long last, had found his. It has been four years since he has assumed to role as Guardian, and now he idly wonders if it would have been better if he had just died on the streets that fateful day. His enrollment at Pakora was prompted by the decision to find his successor right away, in order to avoid the complications that Matthew had faced with him.
