“All these brats really need a bloody therapist.” -Teàrlag Name: Teàrlag Cirsium Age: 27 Race: Human Gender: Female Weapon: Her primary piece of hunting equipment is called Lonnbeimnech Taranaich, which is split into a number of parts. The first is a six foot long lochaber axe (Lonnbeimnech) made from a dense and highly durable metallic substance. It possesses an incredibly low resistance, a physical property that is quite conducive (pun intended) towards the use of Teàrlag's semblance. Indeed, it serves as a lightning rod, providing a path of least resistance and absorbing electricity into its body, as well as the reverse (which provides her foes quite the shocking experience). With its high heat capacity and low coefficient of thermal expansion, the blade of the weapon can be superheated to over three thousand five hundred degrees celsius, enabling it to slice apart foes with greater ease. Said blade can also be launched as a rocket, trailing long, fine copper wires behind it as it flies into the distance. This essentially leaves the weapon as a staff until the head makes it return (as it contains its own propellant). The second part of the Lonnbeimnech Taranaich, on the other hand, consists of two electrical amplifiers (Taranaich) bound to her wrists that can launch bolts of electricity at her foes, but when combined with the lochaber axe, form what can be best described as a electromagnetic slingshot. Utilising lightning dust and her semblance in tandem, she can propel anything placed within the sling at speeds far greater than what is provided by a standard slingshot. Her projectiles for this tend to vary, but she does possess a stock of tungsten rounds to be used specifically for such purposes. Beyond her main weapon, however, Teàrlag also makes use of a set of ten sgian-dubh knives, which are safely sheathed and hung from garters near the top of her tights (with five knives on each leg), where they are hidden beneath the shadow of her pencil skirt. They serve as her backup tools, cooking utensils and et cetera, placed in a less obvious location in order to keep a sense of surprise. They are not particularly special, but have also been balanced so that she can throw them at enemies, usually with strings upon strings of copper wire (rolls of which she keeps pocketed) in order to further assist the usage of her semblance if necessary. Specialty: Teàrlag is familiar with polearm usage, as befitting her main weapon, and thus tends to excel (when her lochaber axe isn't transformed) outside of close combat ranges. Her swings are reasonably powerful despite her average physical strength (for someone who uses aura), particularly thanks to her skilled and careful use of dust for her purposes, and rarely allows people to close in. Of course, that's not to say she's defenceless without the polearm; the presence of many knives indicates her ability to launch quick and surprising strikes from up close when necessary, even if usually she makes use of throwing them. Her aim is almost supernatural in that regard, and when coupled with her use of wires, her fighting style really boils down to controlling the battlefield and cutting off people's options. Wire techniques are well within her field of knowledge, after all. Setting up a location where she can maximise her power use is her main goal. Even if changing things requires her to drop an artificially-induced lightning strike down from the heavens with a rocket. Semblance: Marchysgallen - despite her seeming lack of energy and general cynicism, Teàrlag's immense resolve and active desire (hidden underneath layers upon layers upon layers of grumpiness) to save others has translated into a semblance that essentially transforms her (pun very much intended) into a dynamo, a walking producer of electrical energy that can be utilised in a number of different ways. When active, she is constantly converting her aura into electricity stored within her body, which she can expel from her body. Although her fine control over her lightning (which takes upon a purple colour) was lacking in her youth, she has trained herself over the years to better make use of it, whether that use be through the redirection of the current or manipulation of its shape. However, she still generally prefers to, with only one exception, essentially point and shoot off electricity that ends up dissipating after a short range due to the resistance of the air. It's a lot less of a struggle for her, which is why she also tends to rely on the assistance of her weapons to best make use of her powers. When she's dealing with her mundane, day-to-day life, however, she doesn't need them; charging her phone or game consoles simply by touching them is incredibly useful, after all. Her ability to channel electricity usually occurs in tandem with conductors due to her fighting style, but there is one technique she has refined that serves as the one exception. With great concentration, she can envelop her entire body in a field of electrons, repelling outwards as a burst or wave of electricity that is both offensive and defensively orientated. Her most common use of this ability however, is to simply cover herself in lightning and run into people, which can essentially be considered an electrifying tackle. When she was younger, she focused a lot more on maintaining the amplitude and voltage of the electricity in order to keep the field active, but it's become increasingly instinctive, and her electrical fields tend to be a lot more stable nowadays. When not active, her semblance can still be noticeable, thanks to the smell of ozone that permeates the air around her, and the infrequent sparks of electricity that leap off her skin. Personality: A cynic down to her very bones (or so she thinks), Teàrlag Cirsium is not a woman with an overly favourable view of the world. To her, life is harsh, uncaring and utterly meaningless, an endless cycle of drudgery that seeks to wear away at one's self until death finally comes. It's a rather dreary and morbid opinion, but all that she's seen over the years, whether it be racial tensions between humans and Faunus, the constant fight for survival against the hordes of monstrous Grimm, and the knowledge that each day people you've met will find themselves at risk of dying, only seem to reinforce her beliefs. Society doesn't do much to dispute them either, with its utter lack of mercy towards its own citizens, the vapidity of the cliques and ingroups that only serve to exclude others, and the innate selfishness of every person (including herself). Once, there was only antipathy for the world in her, but all that's left now in the face of Remnant's injustices is tired resignation. She sees the world in a pessimistic light and knows she cannot change it. Yet she doesn't really hate it for that anymore; the world is the world, and all she can do is live from day to day until her role in the endless cycle ends. Her constant state of sour grumpiness and blunt honesty is emblematic of those feelings, but she does give bright outlooks a try. That's what her students need, and it's her job to provide that for them. Deep down however, she still possesses an incredible resolve, and the courage to fight for those in need of being defended. She hates to see people cry, and will do anything to wipe those tears away, even if it's at great cost to herself. Her self-worth is rather lacking, especially in regards to her own confidence in each and every one of her actions. Underneath that grumpy, cynical exterior lies someone with self-doubts and flaws and precious people, even if she doesn't really like to admit it half of the time. She can't accept praise or gratitude that easily, and is frequently flustered by any acknowledgement of her deeds. She doesn't believe she's that much help. She doesn't really believe she can. But she's a teacher now, so she has to do her best to give them the advice they need no matter how much she doubts herself. Maybe it could turn out to be good advice, but she doesn't know. She just wants to help a little. Sometimes she looks at her students and sees in them her past, and she wants to help them grow beyond that. She's always been characterised as a rather lazy, unmotivated person, somebody who had put minimal effort into graduating from Shade Academy as just another average student. It would be strange to note then that she had been the leader of her team, as well as having pursued her current career in education. The fact of the matter is that she cares for people, has strong tactical sensibilities, and from time to time can muster up something surprisingly inspirational. Her words can be rough at times, but she has a grasp on how others react, even if she herself isn't that fond of forming deep bonds. Being a teacher is something that has taken advantage of her caring nature; it's a duty she throws her entire being into, for she wants to make sure that the kids come out alright. Otherwise, she much prefers to take things easy and avoid the struggle (although her career really hasn't given her the opportunity to do so as much, because she needs to be there for every single one of her students). Teàrlag is also a gigantic nerd, and one would be surprised to note that she possesses an incredible singing voice honed from an almost fanatical devotion to karaoke. She also likes deep-fried foodstuffs. Teàrlag Cirsium is a complicated woman with a complicated sense of self. She might seem like she's just another cynic, but there's more to her than that. Color: Thistle Purple Emblem: Although she's grown to dislike the theme exuded by her decade-old hoodie in her adulthood, it isn't unfair to say that the rabbit-like head imprinted on that piece of clothing has come to serve as her 'emblem' (much to her consternation). Pinkish-purple and white in colour, the bunny head is a simple piece of artwork, with two elongated ears and a circular face. Beyond that, there is little other detail, with only a single, circular white dot for a right eye, and two concentric white rings for its left, as well as what appears to be end of a microphone along its left cheek in white. Appearance: A pale-skinned woman whose features clearly paint her as a native to the metropolitan city-state of Vale, Teàrlag is almost delicate in her appearance, false advertisement for those who know of her personality and true self. Indeed, with her height of a metre sixty, shorter than most women of her age, as well as her soft and gentle looks, she could almost be considered a cute and waifish young girl, but the cynical and dead gaze that sometimes manifests in her otherwise beautiful purple eyes tell a different story, as does her ID (despite claims to the contrary, she really is 27 years old - Aura's effects on aging are quite fascinating to behold). The violet-haired, twin-tailed woman is definitely pretty, but such a description does not apply to her soul, which remains a deep pit of cynicism and quiet self-loathing, the darkness contrasting greatly with her appearance.
