[b]Personality[/b]: Samuru is a person of contradictions. A bisexual who still believes in the Christian God, follows heretics and freethinkers yet rejects their more destructive causes, Samuru tries to find reasons behind people's actions so that he can empathize without endorsing. While only average in intelligence, Samuru knows this basic point; that those who do 'evil' actions do so because of reasons [i]that make sense to them[/i], not because they are naturally evil and destructive. And so he realizes these facts about himself.

That one, he is vulnerable to those who offer him love and friendship, and would gladly do what they say in exchange for those things. Because he realizes this, he can assess whether these offers are genuine.

Two, that he is not immune to envy of those smarter and richer and [i]better[/i] than him, and that this envy can interfere with his' sense of whether an offer from those kinds of people had been made sincerely; he had been hurt before.

Three, that Samuru is afraid of being incompetent and weak, and he knows it. And so, he is afraid that he might be offered love and friendship only for people to prey on him.

And, four, the fact that being self-aware has limits, and that there will be things he is not good at, meaning that, one day, he'll have to [i]ask[/i] someone for help, or accept an offer that he hadn't analyzed fully...

[b]Background[/b]: Born to a Christian Family in Nagasaki, Samuru isn't actually related to the historical Shiro Amakusa; his family took his name after the Meiji Restoration and the re-legalization of Christianity. A kind, compassionate boy, Samuru nevertheless came to conflict with his faith when he realized that he was attracted to men as well as women at a young age, but managed to conceal it, and in the end, decided to do his own reading of religious texts and the development of theology through the times. He also read the texts of other religions, as well as books about their historical development. And he realized this; that the most successful Religions can both maintain continuity and yet change. What would have been abborhent in one era became accepted doctrine in another, and the process by which this happened can be tracked.

But seriously, he's Bi, still Christian, and his way of finding a balance between those traits has forced him to think seriously about how said balance can be maintained, and study his history and theology harder in order to realize that life is full of contradictions, and that reconciling contradictions is part of life.
