You seem to be jumping to conclusions, friend.

She did hang on to the bitter end. Only when all her options were exhausted and there was no possible way to trick her opponent into a sub-optimal course of action did she surrender. If there was a chance, however slim, that she could continue the duel, she would, but there wasn't, and relying on her opponent to go easy on her is something Elly would refuse to do.

If a meteor is on its way and absolutely all options to stop it or avoid it have failed, you reach the bitter end, even if it hasn't hit yet. Is it not better then, to die on your own terms, perhaps in a painless manner, than to die to the meteor?
