It’s hard to say when they first appeared. No, no, not when they first appeared, when they first showed themselves to us. They were there a whole lot longer than us, they deserve some sort of respect. Anyways. People started seeing them in their dreams. It wasn’t just sight, though. Actually, it started out as noises. Even in the most saccharine, lollipop filled dreams, people heard whispers. Poems and hymns in languages that were all throat and teeth, and though they were ancient, the hearers could still understand them, at least their basic meaning. If there’s one thing that can cross any sort of linguistic barrier, it’s death and destruction. The dreams stayed the same though, not until later. Everyone had a variation on it, but they were all about the same. Standing in some strange landscape, filled with shapes and colors that human eyes couldn’t usually perceive. The whispering was now a chanting, and shadows danced just outside of your line of sight. That enough was to make a few people fall off the deep end. Crime rates spiked, fanatical cults sprung up like dandelions. It’s hard to imagine now, how simple things seemed back then. Eventually, though, things died out. The dreams stopped, the cults because a meme and then nothing, and the crime rate eventually leveled out again. It was twelve years before the final dream. This time, it wasn’t everyone. They estimated it to only be around 100 people, but it’s hard to tell. The dream was so horrific, that few could even speak after what they saw. Only a few could put it to words. It was like something out of a Lovecraft novel, they said. A monster covered in eyes and mouths, it’s form so gnarled and distorted that the actual shape of it was near impossible to define. It spoke in the same ancient language as before, and again, people could feel the meaning of the words in their bones, could feel their mind cracking and shifting under the weight of this knowledge. However, with that pain came something else. A power so strong, that just the idea of it was enough to cause problems. 80 of the 100 identified victims later committed suicide. The last 20 decided to accept their mission, and the powers that came with it. Kill Cte-athot.

Our characters have been assigned a power and a mission by an elder god to kil Cte-athot, a particularly douchey god that has been causing trouble. Eldritch abomination politics, you know how it is. Either way, with these great powers comes a great madness, and most of the powers really suck anyways. A pyromancer who is burned by their own fire, a necromancer who has to kill to sustain their powers. Things like that. Your characters don't have to be completely batshit insane, but I'll leave it up to you all to decide how these people are afflicted by the terrible, terrible things they've seen/will seen. The RP will mostly follow our characters fighting off followers/creatures of Cte-athot as they not only try to navigate through their powers, but the weird bullshit that has been occuring. It'll be mildly mission based, not entirely sure yet to be honest.

As always, this character sheet is up to you to change/add things onto, don't remove anything, blah blah blah. It's barebones so you can add onto it as you wish. PM these to me and let me review them before I add them to the character sheet. Name: Age: Gender: Appearance: Biography/History: Personality: (Feel free to describe how the Dream affected them. Did they start hearing voices? Seeing things? Got a little murderous?) Power: (Your power and it's weakness. Feel free to shoot me a PM if you're unsure.) Anything else?:

Yay, rules!

No godmodding/mary sues/gary stus/etc.
Keep fights to PM, please. IC actions don't suggest anything about OOC character, play nice, don't make me kick anyone out.
PM character sheets for me before posting them. I'll review them and tell you if I need you to change anything.
No graphic sexual content, and keep violence to it's logical minimum. Things might get a bit bloody, but don't go overboard with it.
Quality over quantity in terms of writing. I'd prefer if you didn't make a habit of writing one to two line posts, but if that's legitimately all you can think of, I understand. Writer's block strikes at the worst time. However, if you have writer's block real bad, then just tell us.
Speaking of which, tell us if you're leaving/going to be leaving for a while.
This is more of a warning than a rule, but I'm a student in high school, I can't be on super duper often during the week. I'll be on as often as I can of course, but just as a warning if I don't reply to something/get to your character sheets.
