I think the line that is the problem is Bright_Ops "Brigan was on the move... away from the battle and towards the staircase" 

when the battle is in-fact taking place at the top of the staircase as can be seen in the line from the prior gm post(17 days ago) "he swiftly raced up the stairs...Oswald managed to make it to the second floor"

finally the general is on the stairs already "General Brigan was leisurely marching up the stairs"

so Oswald is at the top of the staircase, thus moving towards/up said stairs is going [i]towards[/i] the battle not away. which basically makes everything in reaction to Luigi's "the general is abandoning us" invalid, because the general is not running, he is actually joining the fray.

that's my read on the situation anyway
