Among them was paramedic Joseph Thoreau and 'Nurse' Annabelle Fitzgerald. However tragedy struck and Annabelle's ambulance went off route, never arriving at the scene leaving Joseph and his friend, Travis Young as the only responding paramedics. Deciding to rush into the burning building, Joseph made it his mission to activate the plant's fire suppression systems. This brought the young paramedic face to face with the arsonist. Underestimating the woman, Joseph was rendered unconscious while another man, Vernon Thompson arrived on the scene to help.
